At 1st floor, Air conditioned, large, toilet, scannerlibrary card, printinglibrary card, computerschromium, lift, child area and adult area, individual tables for laptop and chargers
Lovely library, with lots of activities, a great selection of books and excellent children offering. Nice space to study/work too.
Amazing book selection, helpful and kind staff, free wifi, always a table to work on, printers, great CDs what more could you want!
It's quite old. Less computers available. They should allow people to use the computer and the screen simultaneously. As in this modern world we need two screen for study. Charging point should be available on all seats. There should be a division for kids playing, as they are very loud, and playing all the time.
I haven't been to Hackney library since before the pandemic, as we have been buying our books from Amazon. I must say, me and my son were felt feeling unwelcome, closely monitored the security guard was either standing directly next to us or staring at us from a few ft away and followed by the security guard. I don't know what your policy is on protecting books and staff, but we were only trying to rent two books. It left my son really confused and I was lost for words on how to explain, what had just happened. Do better with identfying threats! We now attend the Dalston library, which all the staff we have had interactions with, including the security staff, who have been polite, friendly, and welcoming.
I've visited many libraries in my lifetime both here across, US and Canada and I must say Hackney Libraries are the worst and most archaic libraries I've ever visited. How in 2023 do you have such a terrible archaic service including print. . If you print like example 20 pages of several documents the customer service at the reception have to literally look on their screen at your name in the queue to manually add up with their fingers to see how many total you have and then proceed to print for you. And it prints 1 page at a time in such a slow pace its like watching paint dry on a wall. I mean seriously in 2023 with all the modern technology form of printing, Hackney Libraries are stuck in the 80s. Everywhere else in US, Canada and some parts of UK, you simply go to the printer, scan your library card, at a computer monitor next to the printer, it'll automatically tell you Total pages you have, you decide if you want to print all or simply select what you want to print, you pay with your contactless card and in seconds 20 pages are printed. You don't interact with reception or administrative unless your out of paper or a jam in the printer. There are several printers and everything is so quick. In seconds you are good to go. Don't get me started on fact that in 2023 Hackney libraries do not have MS Word, excel or any office on their computers, all you can open print are pdf. YOU CANNOT OPEN A WORD DOC OR EXCEL Hackney you might as well just close all your libraries. It's not Worth it. It's ancient and archaic with books that are 50yrs old.. . Most of time the computers don't work to even get on the internet and most of the staff can never help you, most basiclc tech know how is above them. . Public Computers are suppose to be timed maximum 2 hrs so one person doesn't soend 10hrs on it . Absolutely terrible and embarrassing to call yourself a library. . Today 23 Sept 2023 I was desperate in need of print I visited 4 Hackney libraries including Mare Street and Dalston Kingsland and all their computer systems were down so they referred me to Clapton Library the only one that waa orking and it was the worst of the worst. I will not even get into how frustrating an experience it was. . I will never enter any Hackney library again. Never Ever
Went to help a student at the library, we got told off for sitting too close, I said fine we’ll leave, no problem. Then I was told management said it was ok as long as the library is quiet. A bit later another security guard comes up to us, practically shouting as if I had the offended him. I explained what I was told and he got angry and told us to leave in the next two minutes or else… didn’t know the library encouraged staff to threaten visitors? Used to love coming here. Not anymore. Horrible, embarrassing experience.
Such a friendly Library. I go with my toddler regularly for her to crawl around and look at the books. They also have little tables and colouring set up. Friday mornings the staff do a storytime and music session, so sweet! Thanks so much! Also to the people who complain it’s busy- I think that’s a good thing!! Its still quiet and the children’s section is at the far end away from the adult reading area. It’s brilliant that teenagers go there to study, we should be encouraging everyone to use these facilities!
I love this library - very spacious, staff are friendly and the fact that they have a children and toddlers area is great, great way to introduce the kids to using books rather than on their ipad or phones. I have only been in every morning for the past 2 weeks to do my distance learning course and I can't complain, sure having kids around will be a bit noisy but does not bother me at all and to be honest it is great to see kids in our libraries.
Great library. Staff are always helpful and the security man on the floor does a great job at making sure library is quiet for those studying.
