Friendly staff, if you have a library card you can take up to 20 books, on ground floor there is books for adults, young adults and children. On the first floor there is more computers, non fiction book and a study hall. This place is nice and clean and feels warm and welcoming.
There is a very rude security guard within the building, so if you are apart of the young community get ready for discrimination. If I could give this, zero stars I would but I can’t so I gave you a one.
The layout of the premises is commendably convenient for local residents with accessibility evidently taken into account during the design phase. However, the heating system implemented leaves much to be desired lacking efficiency and failing to provide a comfortable environment, especially during colder periods. This oversight in sensible temperature management significantly detracts from the overall experience.
The library itself is well maintained and nice. Multiple sitting options to sit, read and use computers. Its just that some girls were chatting in STUDY AREA, someone attended a phone call in STUDY AREA. It amazes me how some of us do not respect libraries and maintain silence. I would rather open my pen or bag very slowly to avoid creating any sound let alone talk on the phone in a library. They should put some silence notes here and there to create more awareness in terms of what not to do in a library. Libraries are an asset and deserve respect and care.
Disappointing library with a very limited selection of non-fiction. It was the first time I visited a library and found nothing I wanted to read.
I've visited many libraries in my lifetime both here across, US and Canada and I must say Hackney Libraries are the worst and most archaic libraries I've ever visited. How in 2023 do you have such a terrible archaic service including print. . If you print like example 20 pages of several documents the customer service at the reception have to literally look on their screen at your name in the queue to manually add up with their fingers to see how many total you have and then proceed to print for you. And it prints 1 page at a time in such a slow pace its like watching paint dry on a wall. I mean seriously in 2023 with all the modern technology form of printing, Hackney Libraries are stuck in the 80s. Everywhere else in US, Canada and some parts of UK, you simply go to the printer, scan your library card, at a computer monitor next to the printer, it'll automatically tell you Total pages you have, you decide if you want to print all or simply select what you want to print, you pay with your contactless card and in seconds 20 pages are printed. You don't interact with reception or administrative unless your out of paper or a jam in the printer. There are several printers and everything is so quick. In seconds you are good to go. Don't get me started on fact that in 2023 Hackney libraries do not have MS Word, excel or any office on their computers, all you can open print are pdf. YOU CANNOT OPEN A WORD DOC OR EXCEL Hackney you might as well just close all your libraries. It's not Worth it. It's ancient and archaic with books that are 50yrs old.. . Most of time the computers don't work to even get on the internet and most of the staff can never help you, most basiclc tech know how is above them. . Public Computers are suppose to be timed maximum 2 hrs so one person doesn't soend 10hrs on it . Absolutely terrible and embarrassing to call yourself a library. . Today 23 Sept 2023 I was desperate in need of print I visited 4 Hackney libraries including Mare Street and Dalston Kingsland and all their computer systems were down so they referred me to Clapton Library the only one that waa orking and it was the worst of the worst. I will not even get into how frustrating an experience it was. . I will never enter any Hackney library again. Never Ever
Clapton Library's staff are often friendly and helpful when we choose our books especially when it comes to kids. However, they took away the seats for the children to sit on so now the kids have to sit on the floor. Once it came to Corona Virus another thing that was gone were the colouring papers. Although, the library may have taken out some things it is still a quiet and nice place to read or even finish your work.
This library is a small gem compared to other very grim and depressing local libraries around London. It has an upstairs study space that is very bright with individual study desks and it doesn't feel run down or depressing. The staff are nice enough though they don't ask people to be quiet or stop snoring a drunk guy fell asleep in the library and was snoring so loudly but the guy working at the library wouldn't ask him to be quiet because apparently that's their policy....even though he had a bottle of beer with him. I also really appreciate the library being open until 8pm Mon-Thu and wish it was open on a Sunday. It is a very small library - even the study space - but surprisingly manages to have books that are actually really interesting I often browse in between studying and am surprised at the quality of interesting books compared to the other libraries I use around London which seem like they are only filling space.
Nice library to take your kids to spark their interest in reading. My children like to use the computers here and choose a few books. Its fresh and clean but currently the toilets are out of use. There is hand sanitiser available for all to use and I've observed a cleaner disinfecting the premises on a regular basis. It's all social distanced, there are seats for use with the computers but they've taken away seats from where you'd read to your toddlers which is a shame. Currently doing storytime with toddlers on Mondays 11am as part of booktrust.
The staff are incredibly approachable, friendly and helpful and really make this library what it is. However, the computers are unsupervised, with noisy and disruptive users spoiling the experience. Moreover, although the library is clean and a pleasant place to be, it isn't brilliantly equipped with actual books - if you're not OK with ordering and need a book straight away, you'd be better off visiting CLR James Library in Dalston.
