They had the football on, but the atmosphere was lively, rather than raucous. Quick and friendly service at the bar. The food arrived pretty quickly, was absolutely beautiful, in generous portions, and very reasonably priced. Highly recommended. We'll certainly be going back for a main meal the next time we're in York.
Excellent, friendly service. Fairly easy on the wallet, particularly for York city centre. Great food. Lovely comfy couches I think we just got lucky there though .
Really good quality food and large portions. Share a meal! We had the steak and mushroom pie, and the lamb shank. Both came with vegetables and chips or mash potato.
Food portions are great and taste amazing would definitely recommend this place to visit especially for a good pub environment with the friendly staff makes ya feel even more welcome!!
Spot on little pub in the centre of York. Food was great with loads to choose from. Slightly on the pricey side but it's what you expect for York, and the chips came in a tiny basket so I only got about 7. Still a good experience overall and happy to give 5 stars.
Refreshing cool pint on a hot day in York, right beside the hop on hop off your bus stop at the Shambles, excellent range of ales and good food. Clean and quick helpful service.
Just an average pub, difficult to get a table at the moment as everyone seems to be going out after lockdown. Fishfinger sandwich and the onion rings were amazing, rest of the food was ok but nothing special. Service was quick and friendly. We'd definitely go back.
I've been to many places around the world, some far less civilized than the beautiful medieval town of York, but I've never been treated this badly before. It was my spouse's 30th birthday and we came in for dinner. As I tried to order food and drinks at the bar, the owner kicked me out for no legitimate reason, claiming I've "had enough" we were both dead sober. My guess would be he just really dislikes foreigners even if they are tourists.
Excellent food and friendly welcome and service, steak and mushroom pie was spot on and washed down with a pint of mango cider which went down too easily . Well worth a visit
I have never had chips as good as this EVER. I was only there for a short time early afternoon and whilst the music was a little bit loud it was a nice enough atmosphere. Staff happy and obliging.
