We were visiting York, had drinks here on Monday and drinks and Pizza yesterday. The three floor building has a beautiful bar on the ground floor. The other two floors have lots of seating and are very bright owing to the floor to ceiling windows which look over The Shambles market. The bar is very relaxing, good background music, excellent beers and wines. We had Pizza which was very good, great base and topping.
Friendly and smiley staff, big selection of beer from both Thornbridge themselves and guests. Around 6 cask ales on for my visit plus plenty keg. Beautifully decorated with lots of wood panelling. I didn't eat sadly, but the menu had plenty of lovely sounding pizzas that looked good going to others tables. Looked good value too. If you can manage the stairs it's definitely worth a visit. The ground floor was quite busy and toilets are up stairs.
Amazing bar over 3 floors. Brilliant selection of of Thornbridge and Yorkshire beers. Great staff and friendly atmosphere, a stones throw from the shambles and cathedral. One to visit for the ale lovers in York
Cozy place to have well made pizzas. This places makes it is own dough! You can really tell when have the first bite. And views from the second floor are so good!
Great place to visit if you are in the area. It is a Thornbridge pub so, as can be expected, the beers are good. The pizza is to die for and very reasonably priced, although there are only a couple of vegetarian options they were happy to make a couple of small changes to suit my father's taste. Sitting on the higher levels you have a good view over the Shambles Market square. Definitely worth a visit for a beer and pizza
This is a great place, whether you’re out in the day or evening! They’ve done a very good job of renovating a boring 60’s building into something that feels a lot nicer on the inside! With views over the Shambles Market too. Staff were very friendly and helpful, helping us select a very nice Rum. We decided to go for a cheeky pizza which was very tasty Americano making it the perfect mid evening snack, reasonably priced too! Doorman was friendly and polite too.
A very modern venue but good to see a wide range of cask ales across 8 hand pumps including dark beers. Plenty of seating on the three levels.
Our first visit was during the day November 2021 and it was a great experience: great beer, delicious pizza with friendly staff. However… We wanted to visit again in June 2022 in the evening. We called in the day before to ask about booking a table for the following day at 7:30pm. We were told that they didn’t take bookings no problem but that finding a table wouldn’t be an issue at that time on the day we wanted. We returned the next day at 7:30 and ordered our beers. When we asked about ordering pizza we were told that the kitchen was shut due to lack of staff. Upon finding our seat there were quite a few people finishing pizzas so the kitchen had been open. I asked the bar staff again about this and then they said that the kitchen had just shut. Disappointing on a number of levels and many missed opportunities for the pub and staff to give us relevant information: Why did the person the day before not tell us the kitchens were shutting early? Why did the staff on the night try to fob us off with ‘staff shortages’ when there were clearly kitchen staff in the building? They then got a bit shirty when challenged. Why is the website updated recently still showing the kitchens as being open until 9pm? On the whole: lovely place, great beer, good pizza when you can get it, but they really need to work on the staff training and communication skills. I hope next time will be better.
Had an amazing pizza. It was hot and spicy and tasted delicious. Beer was excellent. Pub is on several different floors. Well worth visiting
Great views of the market one the first floor, across the roof tops on the second, nice selection of drinks and a very tasty pizza menu. Made it our watering hole, when we needed a break we'd circle back and relax, before setting off again.
