Quite quiet as we were there through the day on a Saturday. Good selection of drinks and plenty seats. Music on but not loud so you couldn't hear the group chatting. Nice enough place.
The star is your traditional boozer. Good selection of good quality beverages. The clientele is of the more rough and ready. The venue does have live music and particular band playing ska music were fantastic. Because of the popularity the bar becomes very busy which can lead to drinks being constantly knocked which gets irritating. All in all a good pub!
The star in is a no nonsense pub with real people who enjoy metal and rock music at the weekend. The beer is reasonably priced and the bar staff are very welcoming. You'll find ac/dc, thin lizzy, bands etc as well as ska and punk. It's one of the few remaining real bars in the city centre.
Been drinking here for years and the place has gone under several transformations. The Star was always a bit of a dive but has recently been given a much needed makeover and is all the better for it. Good range of drinks at very good prices and live music at the weekends. Seen some brilliant bands there over the years and the occasional famous person as the o2 academy is across the road. Gets very busy when NUFC are playing at home. Lots of seating and plenty big screens.
We only go on a Friday night. The Star is, just about, the only venue is Newcastle to have live rock bands every weekend. With cheap beer and super efficient staff it makes for a proper night out - if you like rock music.
One of my favourite bars in town. Great atmosphere and have the best bands on in Newcastle. Music always played nice and loud.
One of the best pubs and hosts of live music around
Nice venue and good prices. Good music but very poor turnout to see the great band that were on. Disappointed that no one goes to see live bands anymore. Too busy playing on their phones.
Empty on a Saturday night, had a juke box but speakers couldn't be heard near dancefloor, couple men in who had too much to drink and one thought it would be funny to spit drink through a straw at barmaid a few women in with a toddler in a pushchair on a Saturday night approx 8 pm not my cup of tea first time I had been in for 34 years Nd won't hurry back
Excellent pub, great atmosphere, lovely helpful bar staff and reasonably priced drinks, thanks for a great night.
