''.. all in all it's just a pub called the wall.'

The Town Wall is housed within the elegant confines of Bewick House, a Grade II listed building which was once home and workplace of famous Northumberland artist , naturalist and engraver Thomas Bewick.

Named The Town Wall in recognition of the historical importance of the site, which formed part of the original twenty-four wards that fortified the original boundaries City of Newcastle upon Tyne.

Mentioned in chronicles dating back as early as 1280, the buildings boundaries include the site of the original Gunner Tower which was built by the ancient family of Swinburn.

In 1821 the building was converted into a hall for the incorporated company of Slaters and Tylers: on which occasion the workmen found a large quantity of shillings and sixpences of the coinage of Edward I.

The Town Wall stands on Pink Lane less than 100 yards from Newcastle Central train station.

Whether it be a morning after breakfast, light bite, pub lunch, bar snack or Sunday roast it is safe to say that you may feel free to salivate with expectancy as you now have a City Centre eatery offering proper, locally sourced food.

Our drinks selection includes crisp lagers, real ales, world beers, fine wines and champagne.

I was recommended this pub for Sunday roast and was sadly disappointed. Firstly the staff were lovely - Josh in particular was super friendly, accomodating and looked after us well. We ordered two bloody marys which tasted like water with a dash of tomato and pepper, we couldn't finish them. I had the beef roast - the meat was cooked well and juicy although the edge was chewy. The potatoes were very dry and felt like they had been reheated a few times. My friend had the pork roast which was very dry and needed a lot of gravy to compensate. The carrots and Yorkshire puddings were great. For dessert we had the crumble fine and chocolate brownie, which wasn't warm and was dry and crumbly. Overall - disappointed with the food but the staff and location are good.
Was visiting for one night, walked to the Town Wall from my hotel. Place was busy, but large enough there were plenty of places to sit and eat. Staff were great at recommending local beers, as well as what was popular at the time. Fantastic food, and an amazing beer from nearby. If I'm ever in town again I'll definitely stop in to eat.Food: 5/5
Amazing bar near to Central Station. Plenty of drinks on tap, staff friendly. Nice chilled out crowd in attendance, everyone is friendly, both patrons and staff. Drinks are quite expensive; I was going in rounds with my group and I felt that I was charged more than one of my friends was even tho the round was the same Therefore keep an eye on what you are spending. Plenty of seating and the bar is apparently dog friendly.
Staff very friendly. The food was really poor. Chicken over cooked and dry, veg burnt. Not good at all. I normally don't complain but this was bad.Food: 1/5
Went for Sunday dinner, and the food was brilliant! A good-sized portion with plenty of meat, leaving you comfortably full. Pudding was tasty, and the wait for food was nice and quick, too. Good value as well.Food: 5/5
First time to experience an English Sunday roast. The garnishes were great but the beef was topside, not prime rib and was tough. It would have been better had it been sliced thinner. For £15 I can't complain. A similar portion of roast at Lawry's in the US would cost £40.Food: 3/5
Best roast with all the trimmings! I’d been craving it for a while and it didn’t disappoint!Food: 5/5
I've been a visitor here for years but I recently brought my parents here for Sunday lunch, and we were all blown away by the food, but moreso the superb service by the two people who waited on us. Nothing was too much trouble for them, and they made the trip so enjoyable. They were so friendly. Thank you! Vegetarian options: They were helpfully able to customise the Sunday lunches for veggie options, as well as offer a standard veggie lunch.
Called in for lunch on a wet afternoon, pleasantly surprised by nice food and cask ale, served by pleasant helpful staff. Myself and the Mrs shared a meat platter and was more than enough.Food: 4/5
The Sunday roast is nice, like this big plate of pork a lot, the meat is tender and tasty. Good atmosphere, it get crowded soon after lunch so better arrive sharp at 12nnthe opening time to be sure you can get seats for the lunch :
