Stein’s Fish & Chips boasts both a restaurant and takeaway, located in Padstow on the beautiful North Cornwall coast overlooking the Camel Estuary.

Story

I've always wanted a fish and chip shop, somewhere you can wander in, choose you fish and wait while it cooks. We have a fish and chip shop in Padstow and in 2009 opened one in Falmouth which is my other favourite seaside town in Cornwall, situated on the south coast.

You'll find a menu of cod and haddock together with a large range of local fish like hake, monkfish, John Dory and bass in batter and deep fried in beef dripping to make it really crisp. We serve homemade chips, mushy peas, curry sauce and our mayonnaise-based tartare sauce along with some nice wines and good beer. Rick Stein

The food and staff here are absolutely superb. The french chef was even around to chat about the food if you wanted to. At £400 for 2, it was a special meal at a special price. It would have been worth it if only I could have got to my table without knocking the next table as I squeezed through the small gap (I am v.slim btw!). That close confinement meant quality conversation was also limited as everyone was in full ear of the tables next to them. If they loose the cramming in to such an intense degree, this place is an absolutely amazing treat.

Superb as always. Perfectly paced service by friendly staff. Food very good. Not the cheapest but good value for what you get. Nice not to have to dress up to the nines and still feel like your in a special place. Great for the occasional treat.

Went for lunch. Staff are very friendly and even gave us a gift for Mothering Sunday. Food was fabulous, excellent wine pairings; the waiters really know their stuff. Highly recommended.

Had a meal there on Saturday which met all our expectations. The staff very friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. We were very pleased to meet the head chef Stephane Delorme who came and had a chat with us which was a pleasant surprise. Will definitely be returning.

Great menu, excellent service. The setting could have been nicer. Sea views from the restaurant would have been nice!
