Ruby's bar and the building and decor in general is lovely and well put together. Food depending on on choice scaled between a 7/8 out of 10. Wine was OK6/10 but you can not beat a proper ice bucket/chiller. Staff lovely but not all had the extra personality that could take the experience to the next level. Would recommend.
Food is good enough, lacking wow factors. We've been to this place 5 times in the last 2 years and have tried the entire menu. This year I think the menu for Mains has changed a bit. For starters, I love the fish and shell fish soup the most, the scallops, sardines and mussels are good enough, nothing special, basic cooking. For mains, I like the lobster dish the most. The brill and lemon sole were tasty. My husband liked the turbot on hollandaise but I thought it's just very basic. In terms of the service, definitely there's room for improvement. No one helped bring our jackets to us in our today's visit, we went to get them ourselves. When one of the waitresses saw us putting our jackets on and about to leave, she just walked off, not a single nice word. Think this is our last visit.
The food was incredible! We had a lunch sitting and the lobster was out of the world. Cooked to absolute perfection would not come close to describing my lunch today. The 4 stars is for the lack of service. It lacked presence and atmosphere which is a shame when such great food is served. Perhaps a great maitre’D is what’s needed…
Fantastic service, wonderful location staff went above and beyond. We had a booking for another Stein Restaurant in Padstow but they could not facilitate a table for two adults and a child so they moved our booking to the Bistro. Best move ever. It's fantastic, do yourself a favour and get the Halloumi + scallops and the rump steak for main. Pretty amazing combination! We also had halloumi + Crab linguine and tuna for main, another outstanding meal! We had a wonderful table in the garden, a great server and quick service. Looking forward to going back. Kid-friendliness: Staff are amazing with offering to make pasta
Had a lovely waitress, arrived at our booked time which we booked 2 days in advance. We arrived to find our booking had been overlooked as a table of four and to be taken out to the garden for our service, which we accepted. Our outside table wasn't clean and/or set, our waitress kindly made this for us after bringing water down to the table to find the mess. We ordered food and an hour later our starters arrived after following up with staff. An hour after this our mains arrived 2 hours after ordering. The food was good but didn't live up to the hype. We left early without dessert. Thankyou to the waitress. Staff didn't acknowledge our presence at the counter when trying to pay.
Set menu. Limited to 2 options. Lack of imagination in said options. Food mediocre at best. Chips with lemon sole were burger King at best. Presentation poor. Lump of salad without dressing dumped on plate. Starter o.k. main very poor. Desert good but did not save the day. Staff were fine and deserve better.
We went to St Petrocs Bistro on Tuesday 11th October at lunch time, it was a huge disappointment !!! This visit was a treat for us but the tuna dish we both had was tasteless the only flavours were the accompanying vegetables. The female staff member was very nice, there was no atmosphere at all. Definitely would not go back , we felt quite cheated as it was not a cheap bistro.
Came with an open mind given variable reviews, perhaps we’d have passed on by if more eateries had been open in January and that would have been a mistake. Service was faultless the chap who normally works down the road was helping to cover reception and he did so with a friendly welcome. He also took our coats if that sort of thing is important to you. Service was friendly and attentive without being fake or pretentious and our 3 course lunch was faultless. Scallops grilled to perfection, classic fish cookery at its finest and probably the best cheesecake ever even if you don’t like cheesecake. Don’t be put off visiting by google reviews, it’s been a hard few years for hospitality and nowhere gets it right for everyone every time. Thanks for a very nice lunch today St Petrocs!
Really fantastic meal. We had appetisers olive with bread and saganaki in the lounge area with drinks, which was very nice. Appetisers of fish soup excellent and crab linguini too much chilli flakes - the meal's only weak point. Main of rump steak one of the best steaks I've had in the UK with an excellent bernaise sauce and the tuna steak excellent charred taste and perfectly medium rare. Desserts were an affogato with frangelico and a truly spectacular pistachio panna cotta. With nice wine and great service, we were very happy!
Possibly the worst dinning experience we have ever experienced. Where to start? Met by the most bizarre front of house staff who firstly had to check if our table was even ready. Appetizers ordered promptly, then followed by a full 45min wait. Only the bread order was delivered to the table, not sure where the Padron peppers went... perhaps they were pardoned ! Starters of scallops and salmon were underwhelming. The salmon was passed its' best with dark grey discoloration. Gap to main course another 50 mins, waiting with an empty bottle of wine and the invisible wine waiter of course no where to be seen. Main course steaks with zero seasoning accompanied by vine tomatoes that were plain cherry tomatoes cut in half, again zero seasoning - not even balsamic or olive oil. At this point, along with the adjacent table I took up complaint with front of house only to be met with "well that's you opinion" "our staff are all working hard". Unlike the other table I didn't take the restaurants offer of a bottle of champagne and complimentary cheese board, instead took the opportunity to ask for a refund and headed back to our hotel. When asked what do you think we could have done better? Again met with patronising 'couldn't care' attitude. My question to the restaurants owner Rick Stein - do you actually visit your restaurants' or are these establishments run as franchises? It is of course your name above the door...
