The Rosedale Hotel

About

A warm Highland welcome awaits you at The Rosedale Hotel, located on the harbour front in Portree with stunning views across the bay.

Story

The hotel is located on the harbour front at Portree with stunning views across the bay. Originally formed from 3 Fishermans Houses - now a unique hotel with many stairs, low beams and an abundance of character.

The main hotel is essentially three adjacent buildings, each with a staircase, but only linked at certain levels.

All 24 En Suite Bedrooms are individually decorated and the original stone walls mean that all rooms are different in size and character.

Restaurant Review: The food was bland and not cheap. Would not recommend if there are other options. I had the seafood linguine and some of the fish tasted a bit off. My partner had the gnocchi which was tasted like gnocchi from a bag and sauce from a jar. View and drinks were good.Service: 2/5
This was a great place to stay on our Isle of Skye tour. The service for check-in and at the restaurant were superb. The room was beautiful, overlooking the bay. The included breakfast was tasty with lots of options to choose from. This is the perfect place in Portree.Rooms: 5/5
Restaurant review: I would give the restaurant 2.5 stars. The parking is atrocious, if you can find parking at all. The photos on the website made the place look much nicer than it actually is. Don’t make the mistake of overdressing like we did. Wear your jeans and t shirt kind of place. The menu is extremely limited. Service was ok. Food was also just ok. It was worth about half of the actual cost. Most disappointing meal we’ve had in Scotland.
Had quite a disappointing dinner here. I ordered the goats cheese salad and then was told there was no goats cheese so I could just have the salad by itself. We decided to forego the starters as there was nothing else I really fancied and didn't want just a plain salad. The main was really disappointing - the fish and chips was overcooked and the gnocchi was luke warm. Also 2 cokes and 2 main courses came to £42 which felt very overpriced. Positives: the servers were nice and the view from our table was very nice!
Restaurant Review: The restaurant space could use a refresh and while I'm sure the atmosphere would have been great with the views, if you go past 4pm in the winter you will not see it. The food was excellent . The seafood chowder and the Red Pepper Tomato soup were both top notch. The burger was great but with it being on the thicker side be prepared for it to get filling very fast.
It‘s been a perfectly located resting place between all the journeys on the Isle of Skye. Especially the included breakfast was decently priced and the waitresses fulfilled all wishes one could possible have - special thanks to Meghan! For the price paid one could hardly find any better option on Skye. Rooms: Quiet and large in size - very clean! Nearby activities: Isle of Skye!
The rooms were clean and staff were extremely pleasant. They went out of the way for extra heaters to accommodate tropical folks like us during the winter months. A cosy place with simple but delicious breakfast.Rooms: 4/5
Overall nice with a lot of character but rather dated looking. Visited 15th Jan 2024 for 4nights. On reception there was a very nice chap Chris maybe polite and welcoming. Showed us to our room and quickly went over a couple things. Hotel - Portree isn't large so it's a short walking distance from the main bus stop but down a slight hill tricky when it snows or icy big white hotel. Corridors are narrow and winding and bland. Room was a decent size. Bed linen was clean and a good size. Had 2 chairs, a wardrobe, storage heater, extra small portable radiator, large TV, large mirror with desk and stool. Hairdryer, kettle and some booklets with things to do etc. extra blankets and towels. Room only gets housekeeping if requested. Shower/bath and the shower gel etc. decent sized window and we had a sea facing room 2 up so had a great view. BUT The room next to us had a plate of chips on the floor at the door for atleast 3nights. The walls had marks and chips that looked old. Bed was 2 mattresses pushed together. Carpet was dirty. Windows had loads of condensation in the morning with puddles covering the window ledge. There were 2 mousetraps under the bed which I noticed on last day due to something falling down the back of it- well you would leave a plate of chips for atleast 3nights they were there when we got to our room and plate was gone on Thu it snowed for most of the time we were there and only salted the path 1ce into hotels. Really annoyed us that there was a fire exit at the top of hill to the back of the hotel but obviously not allowed to use - would have helped in the snow as my partner has mobility issues.and there is no lift either so ask for a ground room if you struggle - you will.not get a good view tho as there will parked cars/vans blocking the view. All staff were nice. And we had breakfast all mornings. The full breakfast was decent portioned. French toast with bacon and syrup was brilliant had small Nutella packets, fruit, yoghurts, muffins and cereal as extra. Restaurant was same room, we did goto it once but left due to not liking anything on the menu.
Overly priced! No parking. No shower. Terrible breakfast! The restaurant and bar for dinner were also shut for two days we were there! Portree over priced overall..takes enjoyment out of the place! Also, fire alarm kept going off intermittently the whole time we were there!Rooms: 1/5
My husband and I stayed at the hotel 2 nights. We did not eat dinner but had breakfast twice. If I were rating only the restaurant, I would give 5/5 stars since the breakfast was excellent, great service, and windows overlooking the water. However, the room we stayed in was pretty outdated for the price. The bathroom had a tub with a shower head where the cord was not long enough to stand and hold the shower head so you either had to bathe like you would in a jacuzzi or kneel so the cord could reach your head. Walkability: Great spot to walk just 5 minutes to many restaurants. Food & drinks: We tried the full breakfast, French toast, and porridge. All were delicious!
