Ben Tianavaig is one of the most popular B&Bs on the Isle of Skye. We have a fantastic location overlooking the harbour in Portree - we still pinch ourselves every day when we look out the window. We are very lucky people!

Story

Ben Tianavaig is run by Charlotte & Bill Johnson, and we are delighted to welcome you to our Facebook Page, and our home.

We are normally open all year so our guests can enjoy all the island has to offer whatever the season. However, we are closed to guests November 2016 - March 2017 for an extended winter break.

Ben Tianavaig is a distinctive terracotta-coloured house within the Portree conservation area. We look out over Portree Harbour with panoramic views of the Cuillins’, the Braes’, Ben Tianavaig hill, and beyond Loch Portree, to the Isle of Raasay.

We are also only a few minutes walk from the centre of Portree - all the shops, restaurants, bars & pubs, banks and the harbour, are easily accessible from the B&B.

We have 4 guest bedrooms, 2 (double/twins) at ground floor level and 2 (double/family) larger rooms on our top floor. Our rooms are en-suite and have views of the harbour and surrounding area. We want to make your stay with us as relaxed and enjoyable as possible. We provide comfortable, clean accommodation, a great breakfast (so our guests tell us!) with a good menu selection, and a warm friendly welcome.

If you want help to get the most out of your stay on the island, we can offer suggestions about places of interest or tour guides/trips/walks so you enjoy what the area has to offer. Whether you are a keen walker, a food or whisky enthusiast, researching your family history, taking in the museums and castles, or you want to watch the abundant wildlife – it’s all here for the asking in this truly beautiful part of the world.

Thanks to Charlotte and Bill for being so welcoming and friendly. They clearly love their house and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and looked after. Our room had a beautiful view of the harbour, was spotlessly clean and had plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits. The breakfast was the best we’ve ever had in a b&b. They have made sure that the space is COVID safe, I believe that someone in the ‘vulnerable’ category would be safe here. You can tell this is more than just a business for them and it was a pleasure to stay here. Hope we are lucky enough to return again one day.
We had a lovely staying at this cozy B&B in Portree. Charlotte and her husband are really great hosts that made us feel at home. We were happy to see that they really care about anti-covid policies and there are sanitizers automatic dispensers in every corner of the house. The room was very big, extremely clean and bright with a nice view over the bay. The bed was very comfortable and Charlotte's breakfasts are mouth-watering!!!
My wife and I stayed here for part of our Honeymoon in October of last year. Charlotte was an amazing host. Even with the time difference U.S to U.K response times were always reasonable leading up to our stay. We were greeted with a warm welcome when we arrived. Breakfast was fantastic and Charlotte has plenty of advice to give on where to go and things to do. We will be back on our next trip to Skye and i highly recommend staying here.
I can't recommend this B&B enough. Breakfast was fantastic every day - the best we had on our honeymoon. The hosts were very inviting and met us before check-in to let us drop our bags before we went exploring. They were also full of information about local spots and offered some great advice while on Skye: take the back roads!
One of the best B&Bs we could stay in during our on the road tour of Scotland. The owners are extremely nice and welcoming. All the food is fresh and organic, made of local ingredients. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Payment is by cash only. Parking is free shall you have a car in front of the house, where you can have a stunning view. Minimum is a 2-nights stay. We highly recommend coming here.
We had the most lovely visit here in 2018, Charlotte & Bill were a joy to stay with, and Dolly was a welcome belly rub because we missed our fur baby back home! We still talk about Charlotte’s yummy breakfasts and the gorgeous views of Portree. I wound up sick on their opening weekend mortified! and Charlotte brought me evening tea and was just so kind. Couldn’t have been better if it were my own mom looking after me. We were very sad to leave but so thankful we chose to stay here. We dream a lot about when we will be able to go back!!
Charlotte and Bill are fantastic, welcoming hosts of perfectly appointed rooms. Charlotte's breakfasts are amazing. Very clean and quiet with wonderful views. Charlotte and Bill seem to have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable and pleasant, even helping you to plan your stay!
Very very poor, the host was extremely rude. Had an attitude which made us felt really unwelcomed. We didn't even stay the night as we thought her behaviour was absolutely apauling. Skye is a beautiful place I'd recommend all my friends and family here. But, never in my life I thought I'd ever say I would not recommend this B&B to anyone.
Absolutely a wonderful location ot stay in Portree. The hosts are incredibly friendly and willing to provide local insight into the community, places to see, and share their weekly radio show with the guests. Make sure to have them set up reservations with the local restaurants for you in advance of your arrival; saves you a lot of heartache over not getting the most delicious food in Scotland! They were amazingly considerate of guest privacy, dietary needs, and any special accomodations that could be requested. They were even willing to help a couple Americans with parking their rental, without so much as a hint of derision -- amazing! The food is delicious; go with the daily special, whatever it is. Just do it. The uppermost bedrooms are well appointed, though one of them requires notification in advance a bath due to it being on mains water. The view, however, makes up for the mild inconvenience -- plus it's an amazing bathtub.
Such a lovely place! The bedrooms are beautiful, and Ben and Charlotte are wonderful people. I told them I was vegan and they were so accommodating to that, they made me and others delicious breakfasts!
