We spent 2 nights here at the end of May and found it to be quite disappointing. The room itself was spacious as was the bathroom but it lacked provisions. We stayed in a boutique ‘dog friendly’ room which cost £200 per night including a breakfast plus £10 for the dog. There were no provisions for the dog at all so we weren’t sure what we had paid £10 for. Unfortunately for us, having our little dog meant that we were not allowed to eat in the lovely contemporary restaurant with stunning views over the estuary, we had to eat in the very dark pub. Having a dog also meant we we not allowed to sit around the pool and also, from reading the finer details at check in, we were very surprised to learn that the pool was only open 9-5 therefore felt this was too limited as had the weather been warm and sunny, we would have definitely wanted to have used the pool due to the balcony being north facing and shaded. The breakfast, if you didn’t want a full English was quite underwhelming and very limited. It would be fair to say that our experience would have been better had we been there without our dog so we wont be returning to The Pickwick Inn.
What a lovely venue and a peaceful location. Tasty food but mediocre service and everything had to be ordered at the bar. The old-fashioned pub where we had to sit with the dog was like a parallel universe to the modern restaurant which had stunning views and where the service seemed to be more focused.Service: 4/5
When the food came our moussaka was was served to the table in the dish straight out of the oven so was 190C. Annoyingly they put it down within easy reaching distance of our 2 year old who immediately grabbed it and now has burns on his hand. They also put a metal pot full of scalding gravy on the kids meal plate, I assume so he could pour it all over his face and burn that too! Someone then lit a bbq in the restaurant which didn’t set the fire alarm off but did make guests try and open the sliding doors, unfortunately the doors were all locked so we had to sit and eat the moussaka which must have been made by the work experience kid in a smoke filled room. Very very expensive and terrible quality. Our little one did enjoy his sausage once he’d stopped screaming. The beer was good.
Did stay over.A yr ago my friends took me here when I was on holiday with them they live Bodmin Moor area,we all enjoyed it somuch we promised our selves when I visited them next we'd vist again,so we went for lunch on 8th June,Once again the staff/the food were amazing. Its a great place view poolfab it's a shame i live in Bedford,Bedfordshire as I'd be there at least once a week. Looking forward to visting in about 2/3 months time. Thanks for a fab afternoon. Food & drinks: Fabulous.
A pub of two halves. The bar is old school, banquettes, wagon wheels and dark brown varnish and the restaurant is all plate glass and modern with stunning views. Shame no crisps or other bar nibbles but, without us saying anything, the young lady serving arranged for a bowl of deep fried potato skins ! Top marks!
Restaurant review only. We visited with friends their recommendation as they live in the area. The restaurant definitely didn't disappoint with fantastic dishes and attention to detail. Staff were friendly and attentive. Everyone on the table enjoyed their meals starters and mains. Food was cooked to a high standard and you could watch the chefs prepare this from your table or look out the incredible view from the dining area across the moors out to the sea. We also loved the interior decoration and design. This created an incredible atmosphere to the pub.
Had a seat by the open window overlooking the pool plus a stunning view of the bay . Will return ASAP excellent meal and service. Thouraly recommend Food & drinks: Great menu something for all tastes
Overall pretty disappointing meal here. Food was overpriced for the quality that was on offer. It’s such a shame as it has great character as a pub but they really need to up their game when it comes to the food!Rooms: 3/5
Took my mum, stepdad and aunty here when they came down for the weekend, wanted somewhere with character and great food so it’s a memorable treat and boy did the Pickeick Inn deliver, the pub has so much to admire with its Charles Dickens interior, photographs and books and the food at Olivers Restaurant was superb, we all loved the food and the staff were really friendly and helpful, a true discovery and highly recommended
Visited the restaurant only and cannot comment on the rooms. The restaurant was great. Service was really good and attentive to everyone's needs including our 6 year old. While we had started the little one received her main meal which was brilliant. The food was amazing, well presented, fresh, tasty and worth every penny. The view from the restaurant was stunning as it looks over the Padstow/Rock bay. I would be really happy to come back again and recommend it to anyone.
