Decided to go here for a meal this lunchtime, for the first time ever. I've always gone to the other pub/restaurant nearer the main road. I was able to park right outside for my elderly uncle to get in without too much difficulty! We ordered drinks which we got immediately and food a few minutes later. I chose the Minted lamb hotpot with mashed potatoes and melted cheese on top and my uncle chose the hadock and chips. We chatted for just a few minutes in this lovely old pub before being served with our meals. They were absolutely delicious! There was a load of succulent, slow cooked lamb with vegetables in a gorgeous gravy under the mash and cheese. Alongside was a half crusty sub roll with butter. I should have taken a photo but my bowl was nearly empty before I remembered! My uncle said his fish tasted really fresh and his chunky chips seemed like homemade! We will be back! As we were going out I remembered I'd forgotten to pay for the meal so I got my uncle to sit down on a picnic bench and went back in just in time to catch the barmaid coming to chase after us! We couldn't do a runner after a meal that good!!! We can't run anyway, he's 87 and I'm 65!
Thank you. Walking distance to Blyth habour. Charming staff. Excellent beer : See you next timeService: 5/5
Lovely seaside traditional pub in a super location. Went in for a quick drink and staff made us very welcome. Food looked good and we will try next time we are in the area. Pub is comfortable and cosy with bags of atmosphere.Service: 5/5
Great pub with gorgeous views, friendly atmosphere and good service. Really great pint of Guinness served, very enjoyable.Atmosphere: 5/5
Amazing food! Great service. Brilliant pub. The starter, Asian style pork belly with chilli and scallions was amazing. I drank the sauce like a broth, the best starter I've ever had. It was outstanding and was tempted to order it again for a main course. Prawn cocktail was tip top and it was nice to see someone make an effort and take some care with it as it totally paid off. Pie of the day was Steak, onion and mushroom in an ale gravy. I'm not a fan of a puff pastry lid but it did the job and the amount of pastry was brilliant. The pie was delicious and full to the brim. The beef Baguette was star of the mains. Best roast beef I've ever eaten and the baguette was perfect. Gravy is sensational. Thick and full of flavour. The chips were perfect. When I think of pub chips, that's it. Dark, crispy edges and soft and fluffy in the middle. Kids chicken bites with chips were a good size for a kids meal. Fresh and tasty. Onion rings were lush, crispy batter and a good portion. Best pub meal I've had for a long time. The staff were brilliant!
Great pub with a good menu of classics but also some more off piste dishes. Great beer selection also - and if you like Ale it’s good! Heartily recommend - we had fish n chips, steak pie, poached salmon and liver and bacon - all excellent and well cooked. Plus it’s got some great views out of the window!
Nice County style pub tucked out the way next to sea front, this place reminds me of how pubs used to be, didn't eat however seems that is what most people in the pub did. Beer was decent however a tad expensive at over a fiver a pint staff where friendly enough. Would I use again? Yes good amount of outside seating for a cold pint on a hot summer day walking the beaches.
Gorgeous old pub and well located by the coast, lots parking. Came for lunch. Great service, very friendly. Busy pub which is great to see. Good options to have small or large choice for some meals. Good value. Had 3 delicious meals, mince dumplings, steak pie and small fish n chips. Only disappointed - as much as the chips are great I wish they were served straight from cooker as they were not hot and slightly soggy under the fish. Overall, a lovely pub.
Visiting the area, we’d seen this place on Facebook and thought we’d try it out. First class all round. Prompt friendly service. Good food choice including, but not limited to, traditional pub food that was well prepared and presented. Reasonably priced. Pub is well kept and in a lovely location. Free parking available. Would happily repeat the experience.
Great pub! Most of the food was outstanding 4 stars seems a bit harsh but there were a few minor points that would make these dishes 5 star in my eyes. The Sunday dinner beef was the best meet, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and gravy that I can remember. Really first class. The only criticism is the vegetable sides. They were just plain boiled nothing special. Would have preferred something like charred spouts, Honey glazed parsnips, roasted carrots, anything with a bit of the chefs love. For pudding I went for the apple crumble. Once again really top notch! However it was served with what tasted like a watered down version of the instant custard that you can buy at the shops? With a little bit of embellishment, this pub could be really world class! Will 100% be coming again!
