Service and quality of food can be mixed. 1st visit was during the week where we received excellent service and lovely food. Second visit was at a weekend where the service was slow, one of our party had fish which was overcooked. The atmosphere is great in the bar area but a bit dull in the dining room. On both occasions we went for lunch so I can't comment on the evening menu or service.

Booked for Sunday Lunch and took our mum to celebrate her 98th birthday. Should have mentioned she couldn't do stairs because that is where those who book are seated. Anyway she managed with a struggle. The Inn was extremely busy. The Sunday roast was sold out by 1pm which was a shame. The fish pie however was delicious. Service was a little slow which was OK as we were not in a rush . The disabled loo is a good size and has rails in the right places. A loo roll holder in a reachable place would be useful. It was impossible for Mum to reach the loo roll from the toilet as it was on a high shelf behind her. However, it's still a lovely place and we look forward to our next visit.

Stayed in room 18 for my hubby's birthday, from before we even arrived everyone was really helpful and friendly. The room was spectacular, really comfortable to settle in for a bit after an energetic hike, taking in the stunning views and a bottle of champers. The bar was great, it did get busy later on but not awfully so, the atmosphere was warm and friendly and we got to pet a friendly dog or two! The bar food looked gorgeous but we were booked into the beautiful restaurant and had delicious food there instead (we both had grouse for a main which was gorgeous) - I nearly begged to move in after the sticky toffee pudding, the best I've ever had. Breakfast was great too, a good selection on the menu and cereals and fruit to help yourself to. I can't fault the place, as fans of The Trip we've wanted to visit for a while and it didn't disappoint, can't wait to return!

We go always on my birthday after Christmas for excellent food especially the fish pie and good beer. Expensive but well worth the journey. Would love to stay but pay top prices although looking at accommodation worth it. Dog friendly too where in the past my black Lab loved roasting himself by the fires.

The Inn is in an exceptionally beautiful setting and is a magnificent building maintained to a very high standard. The staff are friendly. The only downside is its popularity! Go on a weekday if possible!
