We are currently staying in the hotel for 2 nights costing £457, with 15% discount. I know. We stayed here earlier in the year and loved it. However this time has been extremely different. We have a sea facing view which is gorgeous but the room is sooooo hot despite closing the blackout curtains. We've recorded the temperature at lowest 32c but that is after opening the doors and room door which we have pegged open with a chair. Yesterday and last night we had the same problem and thought the heating was on. Staff said they would try to fix it and once the sun went down it was better. Tonight when we went to reception we were told there is nothing they can do! Really? A hotel pertaining to be 4* and charging the prices they do should have air-conditioning as standard. We never gave it a second thought. Currently we have the door held open with the bin, the patio doors open and sitting in front of a fan! Luckily we like to go out during the day and sometimes into the evening but there is no-way we could ever sit in with this heat during the day and early evening. My husband was told it will cool down when the sun goes down. Do they suggest we stay out the room till then?!!! Absolutely outrageous! I know it's not the fault of the staff onsite who, overall, have been lovely. I am not prepared to accept paying this amount of money for this level of accommodation. It has been a horrible experience. The breakfast is good and the staff are friendly but the hotel is showing it's age. The difference from when we were here earlier in the year and now is really showing. This was meant to be a chilled 2 day break for our anniversary and my birthday but it has let us down badly. Guests either side of us have had the same experience. I hope you will sort it.
Now I love The Midland and the iconic art deco hotel is the flagship of Morecambe.nnUnfortunately I found the service to be quite poor. Clearly The Inn Collection are doing a bit of a reception consolidation job. I tried several times over the course of two days to contact the reception there and the bookings team and essentially ran out of patience. If you're going to spend £300 per night on a hotel room, and want to extend it by two nights, perhaps it would be in the best interest for the hotel to have someone dedicated to answering questions and helping guest services. That was a frustrating experience and the prices had gone up by the time I got answers so we booked elsewhere in the end. I think there are some lessons to be learnt there.nnThe breakfast was alright, the coffee was filter and not ground fresh, which I would probably expect to be at this price point. The bacon a little overcooked, the hash brown and black pudding not the best. I think they could do a lot better here. There were some gluten free cornflakes, and some fruit so there were options available.nnThe room, was large and clean, the views unique, and the shower-come bathroom and room amenities were excellent. I thought it was a little pricey for one night.
Wonderful building. So beautiful worth a visit for anyone who loves Art Deco. However, starting to look shabby sadly. The Eric Gill map has a buffet table and tea urn up close and in front which couldn’t be a worst place for it. The map is damaged and definitely in need of conservation.nWe had Sunday lunch which was ok. The staff lovely and the view of Morcambe Bay just fab. Just hope the owners do more to preserve this jewel.
What a change from the high end hotel that we stayed in a few years ago. Staff really good, room really nice with great sea views, food really nice too but the whole of the bar conservatory and stairswell smelled of burnt cooking. The young service team needed clearer guidance as to whom they should give meals to as they asked on several occasions was this your order. The exterior of the magnificent hotel needs a serious repaint. The 1930s ambient music has gone which detracts from the overall impression but we have to move with the times.
From the outside, the art deco exterior looks a little tired and shabby around the edges, but once inside you have a lovely large and clean lobby with a long bar. Plenty of tables to choose from, and most with views of the coast, where you can watch the gorgeous sunset. The service was good, professional and friendly, the menu was excellent value considering the high standard that comes out of the kitchen. There aren’t many restaurants that I could see in Morcombe, other than the usual, Indian, Thai and Chinese, which is fine if that’s what you are looking for, but if you want some great dining with good cuisine then I would recommend coming here, food was prepared to a high standard, perfectly seasoned and full of flavour, divine.
