This place could be 5 star. Easily. It's a brilliant venue, largely in good condition, and the food is good. But the staff need more training and a system of work is needed. Too many serving staff duplicating work and / or not  delivering what you asked for. And it needs a good tidy up outside. 1st impressions!!

Stayed here for a wedding a month ago. It's a lovely place in a lovely setting for such an occasion. Our room was ok (room 20) but doesn't have a view and it could have done with a lick of paint. Bed was really comfy. Bathroom sink wasn't particularly good at draining. Overall room was clean and tidy. Breakfast was good, with great choice and variety. Staff very friendly and helpful.

I love this Hotel!  However, I hate the do-it-yourself toast maker.  Thankfully, the Tea/Coffee urn has gone!  Love the staff, see my review on Trip Advisor for more!!!
 01/10/17  Since the above posting, I have had the pleasure of staying here again.  And what a fabulous stay it was!  They have a new chef and the food is worthy of any Gordon Ramsey restaurant. Even though they were catering for sit-down meals at the weddings, the meals were still of the highest standard.  The duck is the best I have eaten in years!    I have to take my hat off to the ALL the staff.  I was going to name them, but have misplaced my list!   They had weddings back to back, plus a full restaurant, however, they showed no sign of stress, just got on with the job with a smile and were truly professional.  How they coped, is beyond me, the standards didn't drop one iota, though they were rushed off their feet.  I could go on raving, but I am sure you all get the idea!  Fabulous, fabulous place to stay.  Still hate the do it yourself toaster though!!!

We've just spent the weekend at The Higher Trapped Hotel for our daughters wedding. I cannot praise them highly enough. The grounds are beautiful. The suite for the wedding and after party was of a very high standard, as good as I've seen anywhere. The food, service and staff were all excellent, with a special mention for Danny who oversaw the whole wedding and reception staff who were welcoming and friendly. Well done, would recommend to anyone. Thank you all so much.  Lorna Penny

Visited for a wedding and thought the hotel and the event were fantastic. The decorations, staff and surroundings were beautiful and the fact that it's set in such lovely grounds really add to the experience. All staff were friendly and helpful and the prices were reasonable though the bar is quite pricey.
