One of the best meals I have ever eaten out in a long time. The starter was exquisite. I know they change the menu frequently but wish I could go back and have more. Cocktails were lovely and main meal was also excellent. The dessert at the time was good but only a slight let down in comparison to the first two courses. Still overall an amazing experience and lovely night.
Lovely spacious room in recently built annexe in the pub garden with large en suite, separate toilet and outdoor seating. Meal in the restaurant was superb. Good range of interesting choices and extensive wine list. Great breakfast too
We stayed two nights as well as having a wonderful dinner in the pub. The food was delicious as was breakfast, they had a great selection of beer, wine and cocktails and a great atmosphere. Very dog friendly. The rooms were delightful, beds were comfortable and a lovely view.
We stayed two fabulous nights at this quite superb pub. We ate in the restaurant on both nights because the food was simply the best, interesting flavours from assorted local ingredients, all cooked to perfection. Add to this friendly, attentive, but not overly so, staff and a beautiful setting, what more could you want. On the accommodation side our room in the Walnut House was again of the very highest standard. A huge comfortable bed, spacious bathroom decorated in subtle colours with a wonderful view over fields and woodland made for an idealic stay. This place is far more than just a pub it is first rate establishment that deserves every one of its 5 star reviews. Parking: Ample secure on site parking.
I can only give this 3 stars for the following reasons. The menu looked amazing but we didn't eat there. I paid £21 for a pint of larger and a glass of wine. As I work in care,a notoriously low paid job. This constituted as 2 hours work. Now I don't mind paying for the nice things in life. But £16 for a glass of wine is steep by anyone's standards. When I questioned this I was informed that I was given the expensive one. However I was not given any opportunity to choose. One final point. Why do pubs not display the prices of the drinks they sell. There's not many retail or service sectors that fails to provide this information and gives the customer an informed choice.
We were a party of 6 celebrating a friend's 60th birthday on a Sunday evening. As soon as we walked in we were warmly greeted by the lovely staff. The atmosphere was very cosy, with nice lighting and a log fire; perfect to relax and enjoy a special evening, which it was. There is an extensive wine list which was very impressive. We ordered the steak which was cooked exactly to our choices and was very tender and delicious. The waitress must have overheard that it was our friend's birthday: she brought a special dessert plate with homemade truffles for her after the dessert; what a lovely gesture! We had a wonderful evening - I just wish we had a pub like this in Brighton! Would highly recommend it and would love to return! Thank you!
An exceptional gastropub with high quality food. It has a lovely garden for warm weather eating. The menu could do with a few more basic items for those folks who would like a lighter bite.
We have eaten at the Duncombe Arms many times in the past and have always found the food to be excellent. This time we had Sunday lunch and were really disappointed. We all ordered the roast beef and found the meal quite unappetising. It had obviously been cooked ages before and kept warm, so was tasteless. The staff, as always, were lovely! We shall return but not for Sunday lunch.
Wonderful hosts in an amazing setting. Couldn't have been a better place to stay whilst Prepping for my sister's wedding. Accommodated all our needs and then some.. cannot wait to go back one day!
We started here for a night in early October and had a great time. The staff are enthusiastic and welcoming, and the food, drink and accommodation are all excellent. This is a great place to come as a base for some walking in Staffordshire and/or Derbyshire. We'll definitely come again.
