The food and service here is excellent. The pies are absolutely delicious, and the homemade mash equally so.
Reading the earlier reviews I think we had an unlucky experience. We had two pies, gammon and chips and a pizza. The latter two were spot on. Tasty home cooked chips, that's always a winner. But the pies, the reason for visiting, were disappointing. The pies themselves were very tasty. But they were served sitting in the gravy which surprised us. I'd have expected it to be in a jug. Both the chicken and the mint gravy were very watery and they made the pastry so soggy that they ruined the pie. I ended up putting the pie on a side plate to eat it. So pies good, cauliflower cheese good, chips good, gravy ruined it all! It's a dog friendly pub and as a dog owner that didn't bother me. The party near us had three very well behaved dogs but the second party brought in a dog that constantly barked. It made it very uncomfortable and conversation difficult. If your dog can't behave don't bring it to dinner!
Great pub with a good selection of food. Friendly staff, good atmosphere and a wide selection of beers. Visited on pie night and enjoyed it. My only suggestion is to ask if customers prefer their pie sitting above the gravy or whether they prefer the gravy over the pie I'll certainly visit again
Ne er knew this place existed till someone told us about it. It's a little gem of a place, they do a selection of pies and potato options. My steak and kidney was gorgeous with homemade chips and gravy. I was annoyed I didn't spot the cauliflower cheese till afterwards. My pedigree was top drawer. If your in the area give it a try.

Great family meal tonight celebrating a birthday, superb pies, great service, nothing too much trouble. Great atmosphere, very friendly country pub. Will definitely return.
Spent an enjoyable evening here with friends. Great to find a traditional country pub serving quality ale and great food at sensible prices. Definitely worth a visit

Always a great meal at the Red Lion. Caters for everyone. Which is great for a family meal. I love this place and eat here often with my family. Thank you for a great service and lovely accomodating staff. Would highly recommend to anyone.
