Very nice restaurant. However, it would be better if the actual menu was on the website instead of a sample. There is only one vegan option and I was looking forward to having the one advertised, but when we arrived I found the menu was different and I was not keen on the only vegan option of gnocchi, but had to have it anyway. Great apart from that. Service is excellent. Decor very nice.
Our table was well placed and drinks arrived quickly. We were warned that the pies we had ordered were freshly made and would take longer to prepare. This was not a problem and the result proved to be well worth the wait. This pub has a good friendly atmosphere and we much enjoyed our lunch. We will return. Food & drinks: The chef here is very competent and we have always eaten well
First time at Cricketers. We are working our way around the group. Really enjoyed our stay. Great service with generous, good food and nicely presented room. Just a small downside for us personally was the quality of the pillows in our room. Seemed softer and less quality than elsewhere which meant a slightly poorer nights sleep. Would have given 5 stars otherwise. Nevertheless we would happily return given the rest of our experience here. Shout out particularly to the young lady who served our evening meal on the Thursday and the breakfast lady on the Friday. Their friendly competent approach and service makes all the difference between a good and a very good experience. The chef is good too. Great location for exploring north Essex and south Suffolk villages.
We have had a wonderful stay think the best hotel break we have had with our dog. Lovely big room with comfy bed, fantastic breakfasts and our three evening meals were delicious. Everything was perfect down to a comfy bed for our dog so much so that we ended up buying one from you to take home! All the staff were super helpful and friendly. We have loved our stay and will be back.
Due to limited mobility we needed a room with a walk-in shower and easy access. These rooms are across the road from the main building. We were not told this when booking. Best described as a pub/restaurant with rooms available? The staff were cheerful and pleasant.
Great staff, very friendly and welcoming. Fantastic bedroom which was very clean and tidy. Food and the service was exceptional, both at Dinner and Breakfast. We will 100% return and can whole heartedly recommend to anyone, especially if travelling with your dog as we were. Rooms: Very comfortable room which was very clean, with very good facilities.
Nice place. Pub is great, nice beer and wine. It would have been helpful if someone had reminded us of our pre-paid package deal as we had forgotten and then ordered the cheapest thing on the menu. However the burger was good. Our room was very nice and clean and comfortable. The bathroom needs some attention, definitely not up to 4 in a Bed standards. The silicone at the back of the shower screen needs bleach or replacing. The grouting behind the taps should be cleaner. The shower pressure was great. And the potentially useful magnifying mirror was at least 18 inches too high for me and was too high for my husband who is 5ft 10”. What was the person thinking when they installed it? The breakfast buffet didn’t really have what we want which is fresh fruit and yoghurt. However we were given somewhat small pots of yoghurt and compote when we asked. Good selection of cooked breakfast but not everyone wants that. Unusually for me I tried something cooked. It was served before I had even had one mouthful of my breakfast cereal. The service at breakfast seemed a bit amateur. But we’d recommend the place and may come again.
To be honest disappointing for the price we paid for our stay. Room was pleasant. Surroundings are picturesque! Food was standard although failed to listen to request of ‘well done’ for beef burger meal. Staff could be more apologetic to lack of facilities. No hot water which has clearly been an issue for a number of years after viewing past reviews & proof to back this up an electric heater supplied in the room which had collected some dust so clearly not a temporary measure. Overheard lots of complaints from other guests during our stay. Staff also need to be better communicators told we had a £70 spend on Christmas Eve which was included in our package, wasn’t told this didn’t include drinks so lost out on our spend as only had a main meal each totalling to under £40 so the pub made money in that way! Was told that this was the first Christmas The Cricketers had been open in 45 years & in our opinion I don’t think you should revisit the idea for Christmas 2024 unless you have several practice runs throughout this year! Still not received a receipt by email after settling up on Boxing Day morning for our extras plus almost tried to charge us twice for Christmas Day extras & for what was meant to be included in our package. No mulled wine on arrival as advertised. No compensation for lack of hot water. I wouldn’t recommend.
We stayed for two nights and from the afternoon we checked in until checkout on Tuesday was a joy. The lady who was on duty at Breakfast was lovely and most helpful. We also made a reservation for dinner on Monday night we thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the service. Great wine too! We will definitely be recommending The Cricketer to friends and family and we will definitely consider a short break here again.
This place is a hidden gem!!! Amazing welcoming, lovely pub, great rooms and all round excellent experience. I stayed for two nights for work and the staff welcomed me with open arms and a smile on their face. The rooms were spectacular! Loads of parking next to them too. The tea and coffee varieties were great, beds huge and the bathroom had plenty of space. Dinner in the evening was exceptional. The fish and chips were to die for! Nice selection of alcohol and soft drinks not drinking whilst on work visit Breakfast the next day was delightful and fresh. The selection was plentiful and got me ready for the day ahead. Highly recommend for a stay, lunch or dinner visit! Rooms: Amazing, clean and full of good amenities Food & drinks: Fish and chips was excellent and the breakfast
