What a lovely pub/hotel. Room was clean and the bed was so comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. As a team their service was as good as any 4/5 star hotel I have been too. Very welcoming and also went out their way to help us when our little boy needed food before bedtime. Breakfast was lovely and with a very good selection. The full English I had was clearly locally sourced ingredients as the bacon/sausages were very good quality. The only downside was the coffee in a bag but to be honest I never questioned if I could get any other coffee. I was staying for a wedding so I can't comment on the location other than it seemed very quiet and rural which made it pleasantly quiet.
Wow what a meal!! We have just visited The Cricketers Arms for a meal with family to celebrate my Dads birthday. There were 7 of us and everyone really enjoyed their food. Everything was cooked perfectly and really good portion sizes too. The triple cooked chips were so good The staff were friendly and attentive and we were given a warm welcome when we arrived. I would definitely recommend a visit if you are in the area.
Popped in one Sunday afternoon recently on the off-chance of some food following a long woodland walk. If nothing else, a pint and some snacks the little one was flagging. But although booking is definitely recommended, especially on a Sunday, a table was found and cleared quickly. That was the quickest bit. After that, service throughout was a bit slow, overall, and it was quite a wait to order and for the food to materialise and drinks, and dessert, and bill... in the end we went up to the bar to pay but the food was excellent. A roast, a burger and a kids' fish and chips, with drinks, set us back just over £80. The Sunday menu mainly roasts is a little limited, but I'd be keen to come back for the full menu. There is a great kids' menu, too cricket-themed, obviously, so the crossword and puzzles might be a bit tricky if you're not into that particular sport!. Good selection of drinks at the bar, with some very decent wines. Many tables outside by the Green in this little hamlet. The toilets were decent though a little small. We'll definitely be back. There are also rooms, and they apparently offer a stay-and-park deal for Stansted airport, but it's not something we're likely to try.
Had a lovely meal out with family on Bank Holiday Monday. Amazing food, great service and the location is fabulous. Nice village pub, with a busy atmosphere.Service: 5/5
I went for dinner with five friends and it was frankly disappointing. Three of us had the rump steak and the other three had Miso chicken. The steak was great, no complaints, but all three people who had the chicken said it was very dry. The sevice was not brilliant, the highlight being my meal turning up five minutes after everyone elses! Given this was a Tuesday night they weren't packed so there really was no excuse for the poor service. This is the second time we have been to the Cricketers and had a disappointing experience so we probably won't go again.
After finally arriving after a very long drive The Service at this place was very average, staff had no idea about the items on the menu Was really starving looking forward to a roast and it just made me sad , Come out cold , then wanted. To order something different to be told kitchen was Closed. Asked for a drink didn’t get It till as we was leaving. Don’t know if this was a one off, but will not be back in a rush!
My husband and I pulled into this pub for lunch yesterday afternoon en route to Kings Lynn, ravished as we had only travelled a distance of 35 miles in 2 1/2 hours following an accident on the M11. We arrived at approx 2pm and placed an order for their Beef Wellington platter to share priced at £59, which included glazed carrots, dauphinoise potatoes, roast onions, long stem broccoli, red cabbage and a red wine jus. At around 2.45pm I enquired how long our meal would be and was advised that they were plating the meal up. Shortly after a gentleman, who may have been the owner/manager, arrived at our table with 2 warmed plates. He apologised for the delay and offered us a further tea/coffee free of charge while we were waiting. My husband accepted his offer though I declined and suggested to him that we should have been advised of the wait for our meal when we first placed the order. He accepted this and apologised again. The meal arrived shortly after and to say it was disappointing would be an understatement. The beef Wellington was cut in half and the beef was red raw. The vegetables were lukewarm. We were served one large carrot cut in half, which was hardly cooked as was the broccoli. There was one small cooked onion and the potatoes were certainly a version of dauphinoise that I had never been served before. Equally though I didn't get round to pouring the jus on my meal I cannot confirm whether it was a red wine jus or just a small jug of ordinary gravy. The proprietor did check whether we were happy and I returned my meal as I couldn't even cut the meat with my knife, while my husband asked for a steak knife and did actually eat the beef, the half carrot and the potatoes. As I needed something to eat I noticed a party arriving after us had been presented with a "Fish Friday" placard offering 2 meals for £28 and said to the proprietor that we would have both ordered that had we known it was on the menu. I subsequently ordered that for myself and similarly the meal was very mediocre. The fish was fine though the batter was very greasy and I think the very small serving of chips that accompanied the fish and mushy peas must have been triple cooked probably 3 or 4 times as they were rock hard and I actually only ate probably 3 or 4 of the portion of 8 chips served. I was loathe to write this review as my policy is usually only to review very good experiences and service though I do recall that I have made one other very poor review. My main reason for writing this review in such depth is that I was shocked to find that we had been charged £29.50 exactly half of the cost of the beef Wellington meal for the part that my husband actually ate though it was evident that the very small serving of broccoli and red cabbage still remained in the service dish and I was charged £17 for a VERY SMALL badly cooked version of the "£28 for 2" Fish Friday meal - though to their credit they did "compensate" us by not charging for the 3 teas we had. I did want to go back and question the cost but as we had another 2 hour drive ahead of us my husband asked me not to bother as it would only extend our bad experience. Exceptionally bad customer goodwill and as you would expect we will not be returning there.
The staff was super friendly and they served the food quite fast. The food was delicious and the garden with the views of the cricket club is amazing
After a long flight from New Zealand we arrived slightly weary but pleased to be at our accommodation for the next 3 nights. We were met by a lovely young chap, who made us very welcome just what we needed and this continued throughout our stay. All the staff are lovely and friendly, the food is outstanding. Our room comfortable and we had everything we needed. Thank you Team for your excellent friendly service you made as feel welcome, we feel rested and ready for the rest of our full on holiday.
We stopped over for one night whilst travelling back from holiday. Lovely setting overlooking the village cricket green. The weather was beautiful and perfect for sitting outside to eat our evening meal. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the Timothy Taylor beer. The food was delicious as was the breakfast in the morning. Lots of parking and plenty of space indoors for dining aswell. Some of the doors are low so watch your head if you’re tall!!! Rooms: Our bed was enormous with super quality bedding. Although the bathroom was small it was perfectly functional with proper sized bath towels. A rare treat nowadays. We had a lovely little lounge area with a dressing table. Lots of character.
