100% reccomended.Excellent pub/hotel. Staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. The whole establishment was very clean, and the rooms were immaculate. I didn't eat there, but I spoke to another guest who said the food was excellent. I can attest to the high quality of the ale. Hotel is ideally situated in the town centre. No parking on site, but the nearest car park is within two minutes walking and on a flat, so I had no issues. Will be visiting again.
We came for dinner with our 3 young children. We are all fussy eaters and the food was fantastic! You could taste the food was cooked fresh, even the kids chocolate brownie and sauce was homemade! Highly recommend. We never stayed in the hotel so can’t comment on that. Notes * the loaded potato skins were a hit with us all * the fish and chips was superbly crispy and succulent * kids meals are a great size
Lovely old building with lots of character and features. Staff were lovely but not enough of them which meant service was very slow. Food was delicious when it did eventually arrive though. Would have given five stars if not for the slow service. Didn't stay in the rooms so unable to comment on them.Service: 4/5
Staff weren't particularly attentive. Tables recommend using an app to ask for service but after 22 mins no one had arrived. Several staff walked past me and didn't engage or ask if wanted a drink or to order. My table wasn't cleared before I sat down so I'd love some stuff down the end. No one ever cleaner it up until I was about to leave. Food wasnt great the burger was pretty average and hugely overpriced. The stout they had on was great though
Oh dear, what a disappointing experience. Very embarrassing if this establishment is looking to represent an English Coffee and Cake Shop to tourists. We decided to sit outside as it was warm after ordering a cream tea. The lady serving gave me the two scones on a nice plate, a small jar of jam and tub of clotted cream, I had to collect the knife myself. The tea she suggested would follow being delivered by one of the waiting staff. I navigated up the steps to the outside patio area no offer of a tray or an offer of taking it to my table for me. Having sat down this is where I began to realise we'd made a mistake stopping here. The table was not cleared and there was a wet stinking pot of cigarettes from the previous night. The floor was covered in cigarette butts. It smelt awful. I began to notice people complaining on other tables too, orders having been taken but a delay. An Italian family, up and left.. shameful experience. Our tea finally arrived 20 minutes later following my complaint to the lady who originally served me for the long wait. The waitress offered no apology upon delivery, did not speak to us. No offer of sugar, no spoon for the tea, luckily I had the knife I collected early for the scones. Oh by the way... they were dry. Tea cutlery was a miss mash, no consistency for the milk pots as an example. We left but fortunately I came across the manager outside on the ice cream stall. I explained all to him, the back staff working hard, I could see them cooking what looked like nice food. The front of house staff and their lack of adequate customer service appalling. I will never go back there again. I do not recommend.
Myself and a friend had lunch here. Unfortunately there was only one person on her own who was attending to serving and the bar. She was very nice but she was rushed off her feet and really needed a helping hand. The food however was lovely. My friend had the fish & chips, the batter was nice and crispy and the chips were good, but the mushy peas were not traditional, as fresh peas were used. I had a delicious minted lamb pie packed with succulent meat & veg with mashed potato, more veggies and gravy.
Had a lovely lunch with my husband today. Wendy served us and was delightful, nothing was too much bother. The food was delicious and portions generous. We'll definitely be back, the only thing that stopped it being a 5* review was my steak was cooked medium when I asked for rare... But it was still delicious and tender. We're looking forward to coming back again soon
I enjoyed a lovely boutique room. It was quiet, the bed and bedding utterly comfy. It allowed me for a very good restful stay, which is just what the doctor prescribed : Thank you to the staff who all made it very welcoming and pleasant.
Wonderful building with lots of quirky period features. The staff were helpful, polite and very accommodating. The food was of exceptional quality, freshly prepared and served with a smile. Both rooms we had were lovely, with some very stylish touches, they were clean. There were just a few silly things which could have been better. Overall very happy and will certainly return. Rooms: The best had been made of the quirkiness of a historic building, there were some stylish touches, and the rooms were clean Nearby activities: Everything we wanted to do was easy to access, as with all historic towns, hills, uneven pathways are a given, a beautiful small town with character in abundance Walkability: Everything was very walkable, it was a pleasure not to have litter and takeaway rubbish around Food & drinks: The food we had at the hotel was of exceptional quality, freshly prepared and the service was warm and friendly
An absolute delight of a visit. The room was small but cozy. Felt newly renovated. Very clean overall, big and soft bed, with all amenities you might need. And of course, very nice personnel especially at breakfast! We will most likely come back if we visit saffron Walden again.Rooms: 5/5
