Story

The Cross Keys re opened just in time for her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee on the 2nd of June 2012. The opening followed a £660,000 restoration, the work created a 6 bedroom Boutique Hotel , a completely unique offer now called ‘Molly’s Coffee and Cake Shop’, an all-new 100 cover dining experience and wine led bar area.

The bar and dining is supported by a newly constructed 80sqm kitchen, visible to those brave enough to sit outside on the terrace or passing by into Molly’s.

The Cross Keys Offers; delicious fresh food, amazing wines and bedrooms to die for, all complimented by a marriage of the Cross Keys Elizabethan architecture and contemporary design.

The building dates back some 850 years and is one of the most important buildings architecturally and commercially in the centre of Saffron Walden.

Booked a table online for 3 to have a Sunday roast. Process was easy and fast. When we arrived, we were immediately sat and the food was very good. The beef was very tender and all the trimmings were absolutely delicious.nnWe will definitely be returning one day soon.
First trip to England, had to try the Fish Pie, it was great! Wasn't sure if I would like it and it was a nice surprise. As well the place had a very cool story.
What a beautiful old pub in the heart of Saffron Waldron. It's warm and inviting and like stepping back in time, although the food and wine list are very now and very good.nIf you are in Saffron Waldron make a place to go for lunch/dinner, a drink from their excellent wine list or coffee and cake in their cafè nook.nThey also have 10 rooms which would be perfect if you are stopping in Saffron Waldron for a few days. The new manger and staff were very welcoming.
Really lovely. We’ve eaten here twice and recommended to several friends to stay when they visit us. A small thing is that both times we ate here the service was very slow. The first time was a Friday but there were only two tables and the second was at the Sunday Carvery so fair enough ! Staff really looked after us though and it’s not put us off booking again
Lovely meal at The Cross Keys. Good location in the centre of Saffron Walden with plenty of car parks. Fixed price menu was reasonable, but not lots of choice especially desserts. Full menu was available too. Food was excellent, wine expensive.nService was 5*. Our server Yasmin was very attentive, personable and excellent at remembering all our orders. All round a lovely experience.
