Didn't stay at the hotel but did eat a lovely Sunday Roast with family. I have visited this pub a few times and the service is always excellent. Everyone makes you feel comfortable as soon as you step inside so it is like a home from home.
Been visiting The Brownswood as a pub for years now, on this occasion we stayed in the guesthouse. The room was perfect, immaculately presented with attentive staff.nnDita is AMAZING and really lovely, she looked after us at breakfast, keeping the coffee flowing and the toast coming!nnAlso a huge thanks to Michael, and all the pub staff who accommodated a Sunday roast of around 19 of us at 12:30 lunchtime! Food was amazing!nnWill definitely be back.
The pub is really nice to stay over for a couple of nights in a more relaxed environment, but still with very high standards of cleaniness and service. You have all you need there, are served a very cute and well prepared breakfast, the check in and out times are quite flexible, and the staff is super nice! I totally recommend. If you have light sleep you might want to ask for a room that is quieter, because the house is old therefore you hear the noise from the street, the pub downstairs and other rooms.
Had a very pleasant 3 night stay. Our room was nice with a comfortable bed and modern bathroom. The staff were friendly and helpful. The ‘continental’ breakfast was much more than expected and provided in a charming room full of windows looking out on the local neighborhood.
Had the most bizarre experience at this place. I walked into the bar on Sunday afternoon looking forward to a couple of pints with some friends but was met at the door with what can only be described as a maitre de with a clipboard asking if I had a reservation .nnConfused that I’d walked into the wrong establishment I looked around to get my bearings before clarifying “is this not a pub”?nnHe replied that it was a pub but that you now required a reservation. Not sure whether I’d travelled back in time to the Covid lockdown , I tried to reassure him I was meeting friends and attempted to enter the public house. He now demanded my friends names .nnI ended up calling them to try and get me in.nnA pub is a public house. It should be open , friendly , welcoming and free to enter unhindered . It should not behave like an exclusive private members club . You should not need a reservation to enter a pub. I think this ‘pub’ actually wants a system to screen it’s customers before entry to keep the clientele more to their liking.nnEither way it spoilt what should have been a relaxing Sunday afternoon .
