Pophams has become one of my regular coffee stops and it’s easy to see why. Tucked away on a quiet residential street, it has a lovely neighbourhood feel and is clearly a favourite with locals. Over the past year it’s become much more popular, so it’s worth expecting a queue and visiting outside peak times if you’d like to get a seat. I especially love the benches outside, which make it a great spot to sit with a coffee in both summer and winter. The menu has a good selection of classics alongside seasonal pastries, and the classic croissant is still one of my favourites. The coffee is good too, although the cups are on the smaller side. The staff is always friendly, relaxed and welcoming, and I love the informal atmosphere. A great neighbourhood bakery that I’d happily keep coming back to!
Worth the visit just for the cappuccino and especially that maple and bacon swirl if you go early enough to get it as it sold out right after we got ours!nnI would like to start with the positives. The cappuccino here was my absolute favorite in my entire trip to the UK. The coffee and the steamed milk melted together perfectly with the best texture from a cup of coffee I’ve ever felt. And don’t even get me started on that MAPLE BACON SWIRL!!!! Savory, buttery, and syrupy. My absolute ideal pastry for the early morning. I was sad when we couldn’t get 2 because it sold out. These two alone I believe make this a must try.nnIt’s worth noting, however, that the lunch items were unfortunately underwhelming, and my girlfriend‘s chai latte more or less just tasted like cinnamon with water. The pesto sandwich felt like it was missing something or maybe overall too oily, while the fish sandwich had a really great flavor initially but after the third bite, it was incredibly overpowering. I ended up having fishy breath for like the next six hours. I know that sounds silly seeing how it was a literal fish sandwich, but I’ve had plenty of fishes and chips and not had that same taste in my mouth.nnOverall, if I ever find myself in the UK again, I can definitely see myself coming back for coffee and pastries, but I will probably skip the lunch.
An exceptional experience overall! They serve great coffee, cookies, cakes, and salads, and the outdoor seating under the tree shade is lovely. I was a bit disappointed that a lot of items were already sold out by the time I arrived, so definitely get there well before lunch to get the best selection. Highly recommended!
Pophams isn’t usually open in the evening, so I made sure to go while they were doing dinner. Got there right at opening, good idea, it was quiet and I picked my own seat. It got busy really quickly after though, so definitely worth coming early.nnOrdered the onion tarte tatin, confit cod, broad beans with roasted garlic fresh cheese, and a choux bun for dessert. Everything was so tasty and clearly well made. The tarte tatin stood out the most, sweet and savoury.nnStaff were so kind and service was quick. Will definitely be back this summer! Thank you
I stopped at this place for a quick lunch break. I ordered the Bacon Maple Swirl, which was delicious, very buttery and perfectly baked. A bit too sweet for my taste, but it was still amazing to try. The coffee was average bakery coffee, I tried the flat white, it was somewhat darker roast with nutty and chocolatey hints.nnAlso visited their home shop which had very unique and interesting selection of decorations and pantry items.
