Peter Jones

Story

Peter Jones is a large department store in central London. It is owned by John Lewis Partnership and located in Sloane Square, Chelsea.rightHistoryThe shop is named after Peter Rees Jones (1842–1905), the son of a Carmarthenshire hat manufacturer. After serving an apprenticeship with a draper in Cardigan he moved to London and established a small shop in Marylebone Lane. He then moved to central London, and in 1877 moved to 4–6 Kings Road the site of the present store. The business flourished, soon expanding to cover most of the block, occupied on a 999-year lease from the Cadogan estate at £6,000 per year, the terms of which have never been increased. After a period of troubled trading and the death of Peter Jones, the store was purchased by John Lewis of the eponymous Oxford Street store, who handed it over to his son John Spedan Lewis in 1914. Soon after it became part of the John Lewis profit sharing partnership. The present building, which occupies an entire island site on the west side of Sloane Square, was built between 1932 and 1936 to designs by William Crabtree of the firm of Slater, Crabtree and Moberly. The building is the first modern-movement use of the glass curtain wall in Britain (not, as is often claimed, the first per se, as late-Victorian examples in the gothic revival style exist) and is now a Grade II* listed building.

I had an exceptional experience with Wasim, and I genuinely feel he went above and beyond for me. The mirror I wanted was out of stock online and out of production until February 2026, yet he immediately offered to help and began checking other store locations that still had one left. I had explained how difficult it was for me to reach those stores — they were too far from my address and unable to package the item safely — and he took everything on board with real care and attention.nnHe promised to call me the next morning with an update, and he kept his word perfectly. Even if he hadn’t had good news, the fact that he remembered to call just to keep me informed already meant a lot. Instead, he called with the best possible outcome: he had found the mirror and sorted everything for me. He even wrapped it himself with plenty of bubble wrap to make sure it was safe.nnBecause of him, I now have a mirror I genuinely thought I wouldn’t be able to find.nWasim’s kindness, thoughtfulness and dedication truly stood out. I’ll definitely return to shop again — it’s rare to come across service like this. I’d also like to flag that I fell i n love with with this item after coming across it in a recent House & Garden feature.
Sloane Street store in the Fabulous great store and also friendly staff so the 2 stars are for only the sweets.nnI think the Christmas scrooge's been out'nnI feel that I been robbed. The Quality Street® chocolates to fill our beautiful new Limited Edition tins. .what can i say this time they are so small very small every time i look at it' i just thing wow this tin tiny and to pay £12 must the same size as a pair of glass's
You can easily loose several hours inside this exclusive department store; that’s exactly what I did!nnLet me give the reasons for not giving such a fabulous all round store a 5 star that it deserves. Number 1; lack of staff in furnishings, menswear & ladies wear. Number 2; due to lack of staff not being around the menswear & ladies wear areas especially around overcrowded sale rails was one heap of a mess. Number 3; a handsome purchase of ladies wear was bleeping around all external stores, so I had to come back ‘again’ to have a sewn in security tag cut out.nnPeter Jones in Sloane Square has been a staple iconic brand since way before I was around, serving this particular community & customers from all over the globe with style & finesse, that brings in returning customers day in day out 365.nnFor me what was supposed to be a quick trip turned into something more the directors must love me, the perfect customer! I found ALL I needed plus some. While meandering around taking some videos & photos to share on here, to give a flavour of this boutique branded store in Chelsea.
I really like Peter Jones from dragons den which is why I came here!nnI wouldn’t like to be in a den with any dragons but I do like making dens. I don’t know how Peter lives in one though because mine always fall down!nnThis shop didn’t have any dragons in it apart from toy ones! but it did have a cafe at the very very tippity top floor which served tea and had a really lovely view which you can see below.nnThanks Mr Peter
John Lewis makes a better case for Amazon’s existence than any amount of Amazon advertising.nPurchasing a simple coffee machine at Peter Jones in london and trying to get it delivered to another london address, has been a Kafkaesque nightmare of non-delivery, of endless, numerous about a dozen ?!? costly calls made to a South African call centre staffed with obliging but utterly incompetent employees, dropped calls, assurances of call backs ‘within the hour’ which never happened. Peter Jones used to be a wonderful department store… a mainstay of the area. It is now a hopeless, badly stocked and inefficient white elephant. John Lewis.. an institution in its day is now an irrelevance stuck in the twentieth century. The company asks telephone callers to treat their employees with respect. This may seem an entirely superfluous entreaty since the public here are incredibly polite and patient. But seeing that the way John Lewis treats its customers would test the patience of a saint, the reminder is apocryphal. Roll on Amazon.
