Really great food, lovely service and a nice location. Try to book a table in advance as it gets quite full. Definitely book in for a roast dinner, very tasty food. The vegan options are also delicious. Very reasonable prices and a good range of drinks. Some sports games on the TVs, toilets available, stairs to seating upstairs.
Stopped into The Old Ship for the first time earlier this week for lunch and a few pints with friends and I'm very glad we did. The service was friendly, the atmosphere was extremely charming, and the food was excellent. I recommend the "bacon and cheese puff pastry twirls" as well as the "pork and caramelised onion sausage roll." Will return next time I'm in the area, no doubt.
Staff were very nice and helpful in choosing beers, unfortunately my roast meal was a bit salty, especially the gravy. +10 for presentation just food should not only look good, but taste good : I'd probably give 4* not 5, but the bar staff were very nice, and service was very efficient, hence I hope that next time the gravy will be better :
Lovely pub. Good menu. Good selection of beers. Friendly staff. Two floors dinning.
Nice cosy pub in Richmond for a drink and a roast, they show the football but don't have many screens. There is a nice little outside terrrace and board games you can play. Drinks are a little expensive but the food is good, good options as well.
A nice pub in Richmond for drinks in couples or groups. We sat upstairs and they had lots of screens showing the football like downstairs seemed to, so good place for live football also. Good wine menu, but the portion size on the side order of chips for £5 was quite small.
This has to be said… We arrived for Xmas dinner at 1:30, there was 7 of us. The welcoming staff were lovely, we got drinks and took our seats. Our tasters arrived after about 40 minutes, not a big deal it’s Xmas. Only our table and two other couples at this stage. The tasters were nice… We had another wait of about 40 mins for starters. All cold dishes so no cooking… Again… we got exactly what we ordered… glasses piling up on table now. 4 o’clock and out mains started drifting in! The first two dishes were unprepared and waited until all other dishes were at the table 10 minutes we had to ask for the veg, still not here, we had no cutlery? And no space!!! We got our own cutlery, moved all the glasses ourselves. Attention to detail was not on the menu. By 5 o’clock we actually forgot we were waiting on sweet dishes!!! They came eventually and we left about 6oclock. Yes we did complain, and yes we got £40 off! About 5% The serving staff were very pleasant but had no ability to remember a request. Maybe they were new? They had no idea how to manage tables, remove glasses, check cutlery, food was not the warmest, and we got the wrong bill… There were two tables of 8, a 4 and three couples… hardly overstretching service. We left disappointed…
The service was pretty bad when we were there on Saturday. I went to the bar to ask if anyone could come to clean our table and the guy gave me just some paper and asked to do it by myself. We were waiting quite a long time to order our drinks and customers coming after us were served earlier. We asked for some mayo for our dinner and the waiter came back holding two tiny pots with a teaspoon of mayonnaise in each. Nothing special and I wouldn't recommend it. There are much better pubs in Richmond.
Lots of things to like, tasty food, comfort, cleanness, value for money, warm and welcoming staff. Booking advisable for food, Great venue for uncrowded lunch on match days, service prompt. Recommended and will return when next in Richmond
The Sunday roast was worst I’ve ever had. Super expensive for the size with literally 1/2 a carrot, no parsnips, a spoon of cabbage and veggie gravy tasted and smelled like dirty dish water- had to get the meat it was so bad. The potatoes were not roasted but boiled and had a gummy texture. The veggie pastry was good but not worth all the awful sides and nearly 20£!!
