This small hotel was perfect for my needs, even if it was a few doors down from a noisy pub. I needed a place to stay for one night that was a short walk to St Pancras station for my early morning train. The interior is very well appointed, even while still under repair. The room was small, so don't bring too much luggage. There was enough room for me and my backpack comfortably. The front desk team was kind enough to hold my backpack when I arrived before check-in, and they put my bag in my room. It was very kind of them. The bathroom is tiny, but serviceable, just don't expect to have two people in there at the same time. The bed was lovely and comfortable. When faced with a similar need, I will certainly return to The Melville. Safety: I stayed over a Friday night, and there were 2 or 3 police sirens when the pub closed around 2am. Walkability: I had no problem walking all of Camden, including a visit to the British Museum from this hotel. It's in a great, central neighborhood.
The first experience with this hotel last year was, to say the least, disappointing. But we were generously invited to give it a second chance to make a first impression and boy, we were really glad we have accepted the 'challenge'. Refurbished, spacy rooms it is London! close to the international train station London St.Pancras/Kings Cross. The friendly approach of the staff was top class the first time and has not changed. There's no restaurant, but you will find great Indian food just around the corner. Rooms: spacy for London Walkability: Restaurants are close.
The Melville should not be marketed as a hotel. While it may be in a location that is convenient to access public transit which is its only redeeming factor, it leaves much to be desired. First, there was no hotel lobby, the "guest lounge" consisted of furniture that was wrapped in bubble wrap, and the area was cordoned off. The "24 hour reception/concierge" consisted of a dining table on the main floor. To our surprise, there was no elevator to access our room on the second floor, which made it extremely difficult to haul our luggage up the narrow and spiral staircase. The room was abysmal. There were definite issues with the ventilation and air conditioning was not available. We were provided with a fan, but it made very little difference. There was a very strong musty smell in the room, which was compounded by the old area rugs on the floor. The washroom was in need of extensive repair with cracked floor tiles, a rusted out sink drain, and a black mold problem at the base of the shower floor. The plumbing smell was particularly noticeable at night. All in all, this was a very disappointing experience based on the [high] price we paid for this accommodation.
I needed a last minute booking after not having slept in my travels for two days and they were extremely helpful and accommodating. The gentleman at the desk didn't catch his name l, but he sounded French went out of his way to help me get set up. The room itself was very solid, especially for last minute. It was modest, great for someone traveling solo or people who plan on spending very little time in their room. Could have been cleaner but you can tell it's an older building. Location is terrific right across the street from Kings Cross, restaurants, and shops. Overall awesome experience, big thanks to the staff at this hotel and the adjacent ones they also run.
If you're looking for a location close to multiple subways lines and train lines, this is the spot. It has convenient access to multiple connections at Kings Cross Station. The hotel was undergoing some renovations when we were there. For London our room was a decent size for 4 people. We had 2 full beds and a little kitchenette with a mini fridge, microwave, tea kettle and Nespresso machine. The bathroom was the only bad part. It appeared to be a pre-fabricated bathroom that had the sink, shower and toilet in an odd little capsule. Our room was built in the back yard and had access to a shared small patio. Rooms: Our trip was a decent size for London and everything was in decent condition. They clearly cheaped out on some elements in their renovations. Walkability: Easy to walk to and from this location to many attractions and eateries
Email communication was great in giving you entrance code and other information. There was always someone in the entrance to help if required. Rooms are great price clean and basic for your stay. Would recommend and use againRooms: 4/5
The location is great, a few minutes form Kings Cross. This is where the positives end, the room was small, badly maintained and dirty. The shower was broken and the window shutters were also broken. Only one coathanger, no wardrobe and nowhere to store bags etc. Would not reccomendRooms: 1/5
Location was bang on, staff were nice enough but the rooms were pretty basic. Limesxale around the shower heads and on the taps. Also far to warm, barely slept all night
Very convenient, but describing the room as a double was pushing it. Sink was also too small to shave in.Rooms: 3/5
Excellent staff, always there, luxurious room, though we could have done with a fridge, rainfall shower, window needed a curtain to block out sunshine, great TV, enter the room with a code, very near to Kings Cross station and St Pancras.Rooms: 5/5
