The hotel is perfectly situated next to Piccadilly circus. Perfect walking distance to many interesting places for our long weekend visit with 2 kids. Staff was nice and friendly, and the breakfast was nicely served on the very light and spacious indoor terrace with a glass roof. Sadly though the hotel is pretty worn down. The rooms had bad sound insulation and would really need a proper renovation and renewal of furniture and carpets. Same with the bathroom in our room. The hotel did have a nice pool and gym area in the basement, you can even play squash! Over all, it's not a bad place to stay and we got a good deal, but if you're looking for that luxury 5 star hotel, this is unfortunately not it.
We loved the Dilly. The staff were so kind and helpful. The hotel was beautiful, stylish and in such a fun location. Our room was super cute and the beds were comfortable. The hotel bar is also really nice with great ambiance. We will be coming back!Rooms: 5/5
Agree with others that say this place is living off its location. And that’s it. Just like the last time I was here only one elevator works. My family regularly took the stairs up and down 5 flights. The floors creak, there’s no way to adjust the room temperature, and there’s limited drawer space so if there are two guests one can’t unpack and is living out their suitcase. And the plumbing fixtures need to be replaced…badly. The sink faucet handle leaks so your face towels on the countertop are soaked. The tub/shower faucet doesn’t work properly so not enough water pressure out of the handheld shower handle and only hot scaling water comes out the fixed shower spout rendering it unusable. The mattresses are old, you’ll know as soon as sit on it, let alone lie down. And there’s only 1 outlet plug available. In this day and age how can a hotel room only have 1 accessible outlet? Don’t think I’ll ever stay here again unless they renovate.
I visited the Terrace for dinner. It was lovely. The staff couldn't do enough for us. If we had left after eating then this would have been a 5 star review. However we then went to the piano bar after our meal and this is where our service went extremely downhill. The staff were really rude, they decided to close the bar early as there was only us and another group of people there. They asked if we wanted one more drink before they closed so we did and as soon as they served us they turned off the music. The staff then proceeded to sit around as if waiting for us to finish. A hotel guest came in for a drink and they refused to serve her. They were really rude about the bill, they were rude when they didn't understand I wanted a glass of Chablis and not a Chardonnay and they were rude again when they literally threw us out of the bar and into the foyer as they clearly wanted to leave early and go home. I have never experienced anything like this. If there wasn't enough time for us to have another drink then they shouldn't have offered it. On this basis I wouldn't recommend it and chances are I won't be returning. Food & drinks: The food in the terrace was lovely as were the staff. Just avoid the piano bar.
Just blown away by the DILLY!! I have stayed in so many London hotels for both work and friends and family time, but the Dilly is the nicest and most friendly London hotel. If you're coming/looking for the proper London tourist experience with all of the major London sights within minutes walk then this is the hotel for you. The rooms are unique and a good size with very comfortable beds plus great bathrooms. Hotel staff are super friendly and helpful. You will honestly be blown away but the Dilly
Improving their overall ratings. 3 star rating on google is not justified. 1. Its a old hotel, expect floor squeaking, old infrastructure, old doors & handles, old style windows & blinds. 2. The location is best of the best, with reasonable priced suite. 3. I found the customer service was good. I stayed for 5 nights, i had couple of complaints for my room & they fixed all of them. Plus they gave me free breakfast. 4. My suggestion is stay here for best London experience, but not for hotel amenities or relaxation. Though you will find all of the amenities including hot pool as well, its just due to old building, don’t expect luxury experience. 5. In house Indian restaurant is top notch plus their buffet breakfast. Dont miss it.
*PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING* The whole hotel was a disaster from top to bottom. 1 A whole family with children walked into our room while my wife and I were naked because the front desk gave them the wrong key. 2 Carpet was torn up, tears in bed linen, rooms were terribly hot, we opened windows and got noise and bugs instead. Fridge did not work. They kept saying they would send someone to fix it and just never did. 3 Every elevator except one was broken the entire time. The whole hotel was using one elevator. If you left something in your room, you had to wait 15 minutes to go back up and get back down. 4 Inconsiderate and inconsistent staff. Called for room service and small amenities. They would tell us they would come right up and never did. Ever. 5 We made small talk with bartender in the restaurant adjacent to the checkin desk. Bartender ended up going off on an anti-Semitic rant. We approached the front desk about everything, and got a very weak “sorry” and that was it. No accommodation, no effort whatsoever to rectify anything. I emailed management and got no reply. Zero effort on staff or management to bother addressing a single thing. It was actually impressive how poor the customer service is at this hotel. This place is atrocious. My wife and I spend our lives traveling the world, and I can say with no exaggeration this is *BY FAR the worst 5-star hotel we’ve ever been to in literally the whole world.* Absolutely terrible. They are not even trying. Do NOT stay here. For less money and a better experience, check out Thistle Picadilly just a few feet away.
All this hotel has going for it is location. Carpets around the hotel especially down to the lobby toilets and the piano bar looked liked they had been hoovered in months. The lobby toilets are very tired and need cleaning as much as the corridors. The room itself was spacious yet it rained through the night and came straight through the ceiling , dripping on the floor lamp and curtains. The bathroom, you could hardly swing a cat in as it was long but narrow so could just about sit on the toilet. This really is not a 5star hotel
Very disappointed by our evening drinks on the terrace. Slow and inattentive service, drinks took ages, getting our food mixed up with the table beside us were only 4 occupied in the whole place, still have kids fish and chips on the receipt… overall a very poor experience and won’t be back. The hotel overall is also terrible for picking up the phone, how is it 5*? Should have seen the red flags in the other comments. The piano bar downstairs was much better, with friendly staff who knew what they were doing.
I stayed there with my wife and children in 2 rooms... I was very apprehensive reading the reviews and the overall rating. However, I was happily surprised. The rooms were spacious and the bathrooms looked upgraded and with the exception on the shower hot water controller in my room, which was promptly serviced, the rooms had no quirks other than the wooden floor under the carpet. I found that to be quaint and a reflection of the age of the hotel more than anything else... My son who is an avid gym goer fell in love with the gym, it's size, equipment and service.. I usually go down around Piccadilly but this is my first time in the dilly and honestly, it is a keeper. The staff were most helpful and welcoming and the location to me is in the heart of London, theaters, Covent garden, soho, regent, Bond and Oxford streets, Piccadilly circus, and Leicester square all within walking distance and what more would you want... Worth every penny and minute
