At Harrogate's Turkish Baths & Health Spa, amidst surroundings that are pure Victorian you'll enjoy a unique experience enhanced by friendly, yet unobtrusive, attention.

Although Turkish Baths were common in victorian times, only seven remain which date back to the 19th century. None are as historically complete and in full working order as harrogate's Turkish Baths: their importance lies in their decoration, elaboration and rarity. The Baths Moorish design with great Islamic arches and screens, walls of vibrant glazed brickwork, the arabesque painted ceilings and terrazzo floors all add to its historic fantasy qualities......

Beautiful, historic interior with picturesque tiling. Book ahead especially at weekends and bring your swimming costume and flip flops; they have lockers. Essentially it comprises 3 interconnected rooms of increasing heat intensity, a sauna, warm and cold showers and a cold plunge. Staff are constantly making sure things are tidy. There are printed instructions in the changing rooms and posted around if you’re not sure which order to go about things.nFairly clean but old, as you’d expect from a historic building, with some cracks in the tiling and wear in the stone seats from years of use. Hottest room is 68C. There was a mildly acrid smell in some areas and it wasn’t clear if that was the room itself or other users.n£37 seemed quite high for the experience but heating costs must be high. Having just been to an exceptionally pristine historical hammam in Istanbul, Turkey albeit for £65 for 1h, but including a personal attendant, this was quite a different experience. We were not sure what to expect probably could have done more research and were a little underwhelmed. Essentially you move yourself between hot to cold to increasingly hot experiences, so if that’s what you’re expecting, and what you’d enjoy, then this is a charming way to pass a couple of hours in Harrogate

Lovely way to destress the body and forget about the day to day problems.nnThe venue is very clean and the staff always makes sure that everything runs smoothly.nnI would recommend to bring some slippers with you as they only offer 2 towels. not a necessity as I’ve mentioned earlier the place is very clean and tidy but I wish i didn’t forget minennWe felt very relaxed after and would definitely repeat the experience when we travel back in Harrogate.
Summary: enjoyable visit but a bit noisy at times.nnIt's really interesting visiting this historical place for two hours to relax and pamper yourself. Upon arrival we were issued with coloured wrist bands and two towels, then moved into the changing area where a friendly member of staff gave a briefing to people who haven't been before. The locker room is quite cramped, and the lockers themselves are a bit fiddly to get the hang of; they require a pin number of your own choosing to be entered to lock them. Once inside, my favourite areas were the steam room and plunge pool. All the showers are in open areas and you need to keep your swim wear on while using them. I also liked the dry heat rooms, although I found even the hottest room is not as hot as I expected. Drinking water is supplied in these rooms. There was no where obvious to leave towels while using the plunge pool, so I left it on one of the beds just round the corner, and it got cleared away by a staff member. I had to walk dripping wet back to the locker room, so just be aware where you leave it. Overall I enjoyed my visit and thought that the midweek price is reasonable value for money. The reason I have knocked a star off is because a lot of the other visitors might not have read the etiquette rules where it says keep your voice down to preserve the tranquillity of the place. My message to potential visitors is, if you want to chat loudly, go to the pub next door instead.
Very good Turkish bath / spa. Prices are £12 more expensive on the weekends.nnSome small changes could elevate it to a 5 star.n1. Cold plunge is only 26c in summer which is about ocean Temperature in Florida and 18c in the winter. I would like to see it around 8-12c.n2. Put rails in cold plunge. Brits love to swim and multiple people tried to swim in a cold plunge nYou can't close your eyes and mediate neck deep in the cold plunge for 13 minutes like how the experts recommend when someone is swimming aroundn3. Hotter dry sauna room.n4. Do away with the 2 hour limit. I like 3 or 4 hours in the spa.n5. Too loud of quiet room with the swimmers in the cold plunge.nnProsnThe wet steam room was perfect. very hotnStaff is excellent.nA+ decor and ambiance
