Fantastic choice of lunch venue. From placing a booking to leaving was perfect. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. Everything we chose to eat was exceptional. Proper country pub home cooking at its best. Even the toilets were a pleasure to visit. Thanks so much for an awesome experience.
If we could give this pub 5 stars plus then we would!! Found this pub on google search whilst on a visit my family. We all decided to give it a go after reading the reviews and we were not disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious, every course perfectly cooked, very flavorsome, and well presented, absolute top compliments to the chef. The service was very good, our food arrived in a timely manner and was served with a smile, it was a great experience and we would highly recommend.........we are definitely going to come back when next in Winchester. Fabulous experience.
Absolutely incredible food and great service. Literally outstanding food for a pub. More like fine dining but at pub prices! It's a good job we live an hour away or we'd be spending so much money in this place! Very very impressed and highly recommend. Great food for kids too, and there's a decent play park down the road
Found this lovely place and gave it a try, the food and atmosphere was so nice we have booked a table for tomorrow night. Definitely worth a visit for good food and family friendly.
Found this lovely treasure of a place as it was halfway Winchester between London and the New Forest to meet a friend I haven't seen for 12 years, hadn't booked but the young man /manager ?? managed to squeeze us in. Thank you and so glad they did as the food was AMAZING !!!!
I went here with my daughter and granddaughter yesterday. A lovely walk from Winchester central. We had a really good welcome, the staff were so friendly and helpful. A great atmosphere and as for the food, well we can’t wait to go back. Many thanks
What a find! Wonderful food and great ale and wine selection. Warm and cosy, with equally friendly staff. Will definitely be back next time were in the area. Dog friendly Only 6 stops on the bus from the caravan and motorhome campsite, also walkable from there approx 40 mins.
Booked here for lunch on a Saturday, staff friendly and welcoming and accomodating, we were an hour early for our booking which wasn't a problem for them. Service was good and the food was excellent. All three of us had the special Beef, Mushroom and Ale pie, good pie. Excellent value for money, plenty of space between tables and plenty of space for our large greyhound to lie down out of the way. Highly recommended Excellent service and excellent food
Fab food reasonably priced and lovely hosts. Can not fault the place. I stayed in the area for 3 nights, found this place second night and had to go again the third night.
We left the motorway & sought out the The Golden Lion due to its Google rating. The friendly welcome of the new owner, learning of his enthusiasm for the Golden Lion, and his having been a chef for 20 years, was enough to convince me we were in a very special pub. My vegetarian pasta dish was made with total attention to my dietary requirements and was savour-every-bite delicious. This experience was equalled by the strawberry cheesecake with white chocolate dessert. It is made to a secret recipe that my foodie friend instantly wanted. We will conspire to find ways to travel through Winchester to dine again at The Golden Lion.
