The staff have been absolutely wonderful. We travelled at short notice from Kent to meet friends coming from Somerset. They were fully booked for lunch... so offered us a table in the bar then created a table in the restaurant for us. Our friends were 90 minutes late because of crazy traffic and the staff couldn't have been more relaxed and kind. Just wonderful... and the food was good too!
Only had a meal and coffee here. Had lovely Lamb shanks in gravy. Really tasty, piping hot and plenty of it. Located in the city centre there's plenty of hustle and bustle going on outside and was busy inside as well. Staff were pleasant, polite and helpful. There's street tables available as well which, despite the cold, were busy! Well worth a visit
Lovely, cozy room. Every need is seen to with robes, slippers, toiletries, coffee, tea, small refrigerator filled with water and other drinks. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are relatively quiet for being above a pub. Nothing is too much for the very helpful staff! Breakfast is included. It was ok. Standard pub fare. We had drinks in the pub, which has a genial atmosphere. Parking is difficult to find. We ended up parking in a garage blocks away after dropping off our luggage. I suggest using the back alley door. All in all, we had an enjoyable stay and would return. Rooms: Very cozy, comfortable. Every need thought of and included in the rooms. Walkability: Close to everything.
Beautiful spot in Winchester, lovely old building, food and drink are excellent and the staff are always very good. Pricey but you're paying for the location and ambience. Nice place to visit for a treat in summer when sitting outside in good weather or in the restaurant / bar on an evening.
Came for lunch on a cold, rainy day in December. It was super cozy inside the dining area, with a nice fireplace and old wood beams. The food was also delicious and the service prompt and friendly. I would recommend checking this out if you are in Winchester.
Went here for an evening meal while having a weekend in Winchester in late December. Really good food. Temperature in the restaurant was cold so sat with my coat on after eating . Staff unable to turn heating up told it was on a timer. Would have been excellent if it wasn't as cold I was in a long sleeve shirt and trousers. Would go again as the food was so good.
Our room was huge and very nice. Obviously the building is very old but that's part of the experience, we quite liked it! The bar downstairs is very convenient and has a nice atmosphere as well. Good breakfast. I recommend!Rooms: 4/5
Well where to start. Such a hidden gem. Came in at the right time as they was just finishing food. We was lucky enough to be able to order at last minute. Food was absolutely fantastic you can taste the love in the food. Staff are very pleasant and helpful. Couldn't recommend any more if I tried.
We only popped in for a quick drink, as we were on our way to the Cathedral. The vine was was lovely and warm, the beer was great. Clean loos. Plenty of available tables and dog friendly. Walkability: In the centre of Winchester a stones throw from the Cathedral
This is the ideal spot for pre-or-post shopping refreshments. The fish finger sandwich is amazing, the service is good but it can get very busy at the bar, with staff having no clue who's next and asking customers instead of observing, which can be frustrating. However, it's a lovely pub, always clean & clear, immaculate toilets and a friendly vibe. Will be back again next time we're in Winchester!
