In just over a year, Freemasons at Wiswell has become one of the shining lights on the Northern culinary stage. This is a 4 1/2 rating really. Went for the New Years evening meal and we were treated to outstanding informal friendly service, some delicious unusual hearty food in a cosy environment. A few things prevent it from being 5 star at the moment for me. Waiting in the bar area with a drink is actually quite uncomfortable among the service stations etc. A few more bench seats or a high table or two would go amiss as it’s actually nice to stand for a while and chat with the lovely staff prior to being seated. The music was another area that could do with a bit of improvement,it may have been just this evening but there was some terrible cheesy pop which wasn’t really befitting of the class of this restaurant. Food was ambitious and in parts outstanding, though the balance of the 3 courses was a bit too intense and rich for us. Will return for sure, lovely evening..

The food here is excellent. I had seafood gratin, roast beef and Eaton mess. My only reservation is with the space and service. We had a semi private room upstairs for our party but there wasn't enough space for the waiters to get around the table, hence passing dishes across the table. When the deserts were served in tall wine glasses one escaped and was thrown across our backs. Apologies accepted, no harm done. Serve the deserts in bowls and don't fit too many into a room.

Unbelievably good food and service. I have never enjoyed eating out so much. Wonderful pub in a beautiful village.

Very friendly service in lovely surroundings. Well prepared food and a good gin list! Loved the fresh bread too. Especially the brioche. No car park, as in residential area, so look for onstreet parking. Well worth a visit.
