I’ve found myself on a train going through east Croydon on average once a week for the last like decade of my life. I rarely find myself stepping off the train and onto a platform here though. When I do, it’s either a very special day or a very tiring one or both.nnI remember getting the train back from here after going to an open evening at the Brit school.nnIt was this station from which we travelled home after seeing my friend compete in a dance competition when I was a teenager. I remember getting McDonald’s on the way home.nnI’ve spent more than a handful of times here when having to change trains if they’ve been particularly dodgy between London and Brighton.nnIt’s a perfectly decent station, although changing trains here late at night when I’m tired and cold, it can feel a little too big for my liking.
This is a very busy station serving a large area of Croydon. It has a convenient link to the trams, as well as plenty of seating and shelter available on the platforms. The trains themselves were all delayed and very busy with standing room only.nnHowever, this station has a massive problem with people pushing through the barriers behind you, staff appear to be unwilling or unable to stop it and TFL are also not doing anything to combat the issue. Doesn't exactly give the best welcome to the area.
East Croydon train station is the main railway station of Croydon. I am using it almost daily.nnOnly 15mins to Gatwick Airport, 15mins to London Bridge, 30mins to London St Pancras and 60mins to Brighton.nnThere are frequent train services from here to these destinations.nnA pretty safe train station though I will suggest that you to be vigilant of your surroundings.
East Croydon Station is served by Gatwick express Southern & thameslink trains. This station is very busy all day everyday with lots of passengers. There is three entrance & exits here along with lifts & ramps to all six platforms. Plenty of staff to help on the platforms & ticket hall area with ticket machines & ticket office open throughout the day. The platforms are very long & the station is clean & tidy with toilets & waiting rooms available & also coffee stalls on the platforms. Outside the station is a number of bus routes & tram services available. Trains from East Croydon go towards Bedford, Brighton, Gatwick Airport, London Bridge, Victoria & Purley and many other places too.
One thing you need to know is that there are a lot of steps. I had a large suitcase. I carried it and climbed the stairs. The worker told me about the elevator. I was astounded and laughed. The workers are friendly and professional.nnThe trains travel to Gatwick Airport, and the journey takes about 10 minutes. I love it!nnIt's easy to commute, but avoid taking the train before 9 am and after 5 pm.
