Lovely little pub/ restaurant. I say little, it was bigger than I thought. Car park available, plenty of beers, wines and spirits to choose from. They were fresh out of Estrella when I went, so Guinness it was. Great variety on the food menu, and prices are very reasonable. Food was that nice I forgot to take photos of our mains and deserts. We had gammon, with fried eggs/ pineapple each followed by sticky toffee pudding, ice cream and cheesecake. The staff are very welcoming, polite and helpful.
It was sooo a lovely place and a great Sunday roast restaurant. Duke of Wellington is very close to Ustinov College, so many students of Durham could enjoy this place. The price of the course was excellent. The amount of food and taste of food and dessert was super nice. But I was sit next the column and that table was so uncomfortable. It was too small to move my body, and because of the column, waiters and waitresses couldn't see me, so I couldn't order the menu easily even though I booked previously. Except for the table, it was outstanding in many aspects.
It was slightly stuffy hot night no breeze!! but I was massively stuffed and finished the wine outside - glorious steaks, golden chips and delicious vegetables and only a short walk!!
Went with a group of friends and it was my first time at this establishment. The wine was lovely and I had my first steak for 2 years. I am pleased to say that the rump was an adequate portion and was cooked to perfection. I enjoy medium steaks and this was perfect. There was just enough chips and little to no gristle on the meat. I will definitely be returning however I would recommend booking in advance as it seems very popular.
Group of seven, for Sunday lunch. The service was quick, each plate of food was nicely presented. All Sunday lunches were very good value, tasty and certainly ample food on the plate. The gammon was excellent with a beautiful char. Definitely well worth the average cost considering the quality of the food. Worth a visit, you'll not be disappointed.
Thanks to the management for letting me in today with my PTSD puppy. My pup allows me to get out without focusing on myself all the time A lovely meal. Staff were fantastic, very understanding. A lovely atmosphere and a superb selection of drinks to boot. Definitely recommend this pub.
One of the main courses served was not what we had asked for. Even though the kitchen had closed it was past 9 pm, the kitchen staff were kind enough to make the dish my friend had asked for so that she did not have to remain hungry. This gesture was highly appreciated.
First time we have been for food after hearing good things. Just bog standard pub grub, nothing to rave about, had the odd raw chip with my processed burger and the lasagne was burnt my partner couldn't eat it. Plenty of places in and around Durham that do home cooked meals if that's what your looking for. Just a bit disappointed
The pub looks good from outside, and has excellent customer parking to the side/rear. Inside the pub is warm, clean and attractive, and - good sign this - busy. The staff I spoke to were friendly, helpful and welcoming. It was busy but had a relaxed feel, a good atmosphere. The layout means whichever table you sit at is a bit tucked-away and feels cosier and more private. This was my first visit to meet up with Nevilles Cross Knitting Group who meet at the pub twice a month in the evening. It's absolutely great that the pub welcomes the group to meet there as the setting is ideal. I didn't eat there but I've been told the food is good so I will try it on another occasion I'm sure.
Went here for a 50th wedding anniversary with a party of 18. The food was very disappointing. Myself and my mother in law had the carbonara which was way too peppery, when we mentioned this the lady said that’s how it comes in so it wasn’t even homemade. We ordered pizza for two of the children and they were frozen and microwaved and there was salt on the chips. All of our meals were warm but not hot. Will not be eating there again.
