Story

The Shakespeare Tavern, the smallest and friendliest pub in Durham. The pub dates back to 1190, a cosy and comfortable place to enjoy a delicious pint of real ale. The bar features a superb selection of real ales, with guest ales rotated regularly, so you can be sure that there'll always be something to refresh your palate.

All walks of life are welcome to enjoy a drink here, with a very inclusive feel. We also host regular music nights (wednesday's from 8pm), creating a fun and vibrant atmosphere which makes for the most memorable of evenings! There have even been reports of ghostly goings on at The Shakespeare Tavern, and paranormal investigations, but only you can make your own mind up! We look forward to your visit!

Very nice clean and friendly
We visit here every time we come up to Durham. Lovely little gin bar hidden away upstairs. The barman who served us was very knowledgeable regarding all the different gins they have. Cosy warm atmosphere with nice staff. We highly recommend this place and will be back!
Lovely cosy little pub with a good range of gin, cask ales, lagers and bottled drinks. Offers both alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Lovely staff, very clean and good amount of seating options.
