Absolutely fantastic. Nice cosy room, lovely breakfast, and gracious hosting from Christine. A short walk from all of the best that Winchester had to offer as well as good pubs and restaurants just around the corner, while still getting a quiet night’s sleep. I could not have asked for a better place to stay. I had a wonderful time here and when I come back this is the place to stay.
We stayed here for two nights over the May Day bank holiday. Cathedral Cottage itself is perfectly located for everything Winchester City Centre has to offer, yet still so peaceful that I struggled to believe that I was waking up at the heart of the city. The double garden room is separate from the main house, very private and opens onto the garden. Richard was very welcoming, happy to spend time talking to us about the area and things that we might like to see/do, lovely breakfast on the terrace overlooking the Cathedral. Highly recommended.
I stayed at Cathedral Cottage for 3 nights during my visit in Winchester in January 2019. It was absolutely wonderful. The cottage is very clean and cozy. Perfect for one or two people. The location is very central and convenient. Christine was a wonderful host and made me feel very welcomed.
My boyfriend and I stayed here for a night while passing through Winchester on a driving holiday. We had no reservations made and stumbled across Cathedral Cottage and were so glad we did! We had our own delightful little ensuite room at the bottom of the garden which was very comfortable, bright and airy and had a delicious cooked breakfast the following morning. Christine, the owner, was very attentive and helpful and made us feel very welcome. We will definitely be returning to stay here of we are ever in this part of the world again!!!
A lovely little cottage, very quiet, so a good night's sleep. The hosts were kind and welcoming which made our stay very relaxing, excellent breakfast! It was within walking distance of all the places we wanted to visit.Rooms: 5/5
Greatly enjoyed our stay. The owner and her husband were away but her brother, Richard, was left in charge and was a joy to communicate with to set up the reservation. It was an extremely good deal for the area—we’s initially Tried to book an AirBNB single room for a similar cost but were cancelled on because we were arriving too late. When I contacted Richard from Cathedral Cottage to see if he had a room, he assured us that checkin at any hour wouldn’t be an issue and he was right. He was so friendly even when our plane got in an hour later than we had already expected. The breakfast was lovely but the conversation, location, and personal touches were our favorites. It’s a charming English house and, like so many BNBs in the UK, it’s lived in—while not pristine and perfectly organized or decorated, it was cheery and authentic which we greatly enjoyed. The bathroom and tub on the main house where we stayed were amazing, not to mention the views! Absolutely will stay there again if we are ever back in Winchester!
What a find! A delightful, cozy, private and well designed Garden Room with en suite and a fridge with real milk for drinks as opposed to plastic cartons A warm and friendly welcome, lovely family and great breakfast. We hope to visit Winchester more often now we have found such an amazing place to stay. Thank you. Deb and Terry Brazier.
We stayed two wonderful nights in August. The location is very convenient for walking almost anywhere around Winchester. Christine was a charming host. We hope to return!
June 2023 Quirky? Maybe... Shabby Chic? I'm not exactly sure what that is but it could be an earlier reviewer used the term.... Our "room" was a shed at the bottom of the garden. Admittedly quite a nice shed, with en-suite facilities and a fridge, but a shed nevertheless... If you understand and accept what that means, then you are going to enjoy the experience. We were almost at the end of a long 50 day trip all around the UK, and this was the perfect antidote to our previous few hectic days. We decided to stay in Winchester at the last minute for a quiet evening before heading to London Hotel and flights home. We are glad we did. This one night in Winchester was one of the many highlights of our trip, made all the better by staying at Cathedral View. Our hosts were friendly and interesting people and we enjoyed spending time chatting. You will be asked if you would like to solve the "riddle" of the stone edifice?? standing in their small but delightful garden. We enjoyed a lovely evening walk around the town the property really is in a fantastic location and returned to the quiet space that was our place for the night. Breakfast was an above average version of the classic English Breakfast. Cooked to order, with various options available on request. Parking was available via a Visitor's Permit by arrangement with the owner. Oh, yes.... There are rooms available in the main residence as well - but I think we'll take the shed again, next time we visit.
Wonderful accommodation with amazingly friendly host. Very convenient located right in the centre but away from noise. Couldn't recommend highly enough. Breakfast is made to order!
