Went as a wheelchair user, unfortunately the main lift was out of order. So my son had to carry my chair up and down the stairs. We went to see the coralline exhibition which we enjoyed.
LAIKA: Frame x Frame, a free exhibition at BFI Southbank, is a fantastic treat for anyone who loves animated movies, especially those made by LAIKA, the studio behind *Coraline*, *ParaNorman*, and *Kubo and the Two Strings*. The exhibition is all about showing how these amazing films were made.nnWhen you walk in, you’ll see the actual puppets, sets, and props used in LAIKA’s movies. The level of detail is incredible—things like Coraline’s tiny coat or Kubo’s origami figures are so carefully made that it’s hard not to be amazed.nnThe exhibition is easy to navigate, with lots of interesting facts and videos that explain how stop-motion animation works. You’ll get to see how the artists move the puppets just a little bit for each frame to make them come to life on screen. It really makes you appreciate the hard work that goes into these films.nnThere are also some fun interactive parts where you can try your hand at animating, which is great for both kids and adults. Though the exhibition isn’t huge, it’s packed with cool stuff, so you can easily spend an hour or more exploring.nnOverall, LAIKA: Frame x Frame is a must-see if you’re into animation or just looking for something different to do. It’s free, fun, and gives you a peek behind the scenes of some truly magical movies.
I went to the BFI for quick meeting, having not gone there for many years. I loved the refurb which looked fresh, contemporary and inviting. We met in the bar area with drink brought from cafe area. Good spot for working as not too loud. We didn’t watch a film or use the Mediatheque but I’ve watched old movies there in the past. Like the look of the Library, the shop and lobby area. Lots of seating and tables and there is disability access and a full restaurant on the Riverside! It wasn’t possible to use the BFI WiFi but we got access to the National Theatre WiFi.
I walked in, saw that they had the entrance to the cinema and also a restaurant and bar to the side.nInside the cinema entrance was the BFI library which is a small one but looks good.nnStaffs were helpful even though they could not answer my questions fully.nnThe environment looks relaxed and it appears everyone is willing to help when asked.nnThey have about 4-5 cinema spaces, 1 upstairs, maybe 3 on the office level and 1 of them is the biggest size, they also have hospitality hires available like bars, cafe etc
Great environment and interior design. NFT1, 2 & 3 are all great screens, yet to be in NFT4
