Some places just become part of you. For years now, BFI Southbank has been that place for me. It’s not just a cinema; it’s a second home for anyone who lives for film and is my go 2 favourite place in london.nnI’ve lost count of the evenings spent having a drink or wonderful coffee underneath Waterloo bridge. I’ve watched everything from classics to new restorations. The most amazing cinema programme was there sci-fi one where we watched Alien and Blade Runner. I absolutely loved watching slience of the lambs on the big screen.nnThe atmosphere is welcoming, the kind of place where you can sit next to a complete stranger and know you’re both there for the same reason.nThere’s something special about walking along the South Bank, past the river, and knowing you’re heading somewhere that has been showing great films for decades and still does it with the same passion. The bar, the bookshop, the sense that film history is alive and breathing here… it all adds up.nAfter all these years, it still feels like a privilege every time I go. If you love cinema the way some people love a favourite bookshop or a particular stretch of coastline, BFI Southbank is that rare place that keeps giving.
Social space, pretty simple but chilled and welcoming. It has a restaurant on the ground floor. On the first floor, there is a bar, seating areas, a library, a shop, cinema screens and small booths to watch old films—great music in the background.
My first visit to BFI was for the BFI Flare Festival, where I watched Madfabulous. Wonderfully wide screen, cheery atmosphere and a small LGBTQ+ section in the gift shop where I treated myself to a few bits ‍
Great place. I was there for a private screening. The bar/cafe opening onto the riverside is cool and their staff are lovely. Pizza is not bad. I wouldn't take children but I would certainly take anyone above 12 or so.
I was a member, and regular film-goer. Then my daughter died and I stopped going - and stopped full-stop. Perhaps taking up my old film-going habit will signify that I’m on the way back to - something.
