We went for evening tea and the carvery was very well set out. As a personal opinion I thought the pork was slightly over cooked and a bit dry as were the roast potatoes. The rest was extremely nice. The service there couldn't be faulted in the slightest and also the atmosphere was very pleasant. I would recommend going and I would consider going again myself.
Just spent the evening and then overnight at The Anchor, having met some old friends part way. Lovely, comfortable and private accommodate. Extremely friendly staff. Most importantly the food was fabulous! An amazing carvery - something to suit all tastes and dietary requirements. Excellent value for money. Easy accessible for the A1 and lots of tourist attractions close by.
Beautifully tender beef and pork. Good mix of veg and potatoes to pile onto your plate. Various other options if you don't fancy the roast and a nice selection of puddings if you have room after piling your plate high for mains!
The food at Whixley is always a delight! We come here for the carvery often and have been doing for years! The staff are always warming and friendly! The food is hearty and home cooked! There is a vast range of different dishes to have instead of your traditional carvery meat. The pub is very child friendly and the staff will always go to extra lengths to be helpful! This is a lovely pleasant pub in a quiet location.
Had a carvery here Sunday lunch time, unfortunately they would not accept a booking and told us to just turn up. Only had to wait about fifteen minutes for a table. The beef wasn't great, pork ok but a little dry. Roast potatoes were fried and pre frozen, not a great variety of vegetables and the gravy needs work. The cheesecake was very average. Reasonably priced.
If you're having the amazing and tasty carvery, you won't be leaving feeling hungry. Great friendly service along with a homely atmosphere. 5 stars.Service: 5/5
Had the carvery lunch this week with friends. The choice was good, but the veg was just aired. This was a surprise as they had just started serving. Down side was the attitude of the manageress. She either needs to take a course in customer relations or change her line of work. She also could not wait for all on the table to finish eating before clearing the plates. Got the impression it is a get you in and get you out as fast as they can place. Being £12.95 for the Cauvery it’s not cheap. Won’t be revisiting.
Nice location, excellent food from the carvery, kind and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend....Rooms: 4/5
We went for a family birthday Sunday lunch. The place is lovely and rustic but badly designed layout where the queue for the carvery was going through the pub so the tables nearby were blocked or difficult to get to especially for the people who are with mobility issues such as walkers. From my point of view the carvery should be where the bar is where the was more room and the bar be where the carvery is as then the queue isn't blocking people as much, as people who were waiting to be seated were having to weave their way through the carvery queue. Table set up great for us with a highchair for my 6 month old daughter. Good value on the drinks but some of the staff need some training in customer service as we had some rudeness. My aunty asked for sweetener for her 3 coffees she was buying, but the lady said they didn't have any so said she would have sugar and the bartender got grumpy and dumped the coffees on the side and walked away, no hope you enjoy your coffees etc. Then similar happened to a family friend in the group where she asked for an ameretto coffee and the bartender got annoyed for the request. Our friend helped narrow it down to help to make it, but the bartender still got grumpy. Oh and with the amount of people there on a Sunday there was no window open so was getting really warm especially when you have stuffed your face with food. With a window open would of made it so much better feeling. Oh and the timing for asking us to vacate the table was really short notice. The lady came to us and asked that they needed the table at 2:30 but it was past 2:30 when she came to us. Abit more notice would of been better or a sign on the tables for when they need the table for the next group. So that way customers can work their timings out etc. So overall it was a nice experience but with a few tweeks it would of been amazing. Food & drinks: Lovely food, cooked beautifully. The pork and beef were cooked to perfection and the chef definitely knows how to cut it well. Good choice of hot meats.
An extremely busy Country Pub! A great range of foods offered by the Carvery including vegetarian options. Always a queue for the food. Desserts very tasty.Service: 4/5
