Our family of five visited The Royal Oak for dinner and drinks and are very happy with our experience. It’s no small feat to satisfy all of us but the staff came through and delivered delicious food and drink and provided a comfortable atmosphere. We will certainly be returning.
This a what pubs should be like in York, amazing vibe and well preserved 17th century pub that sells good beer and the food is some of the best I have tried in York. The fish and chips were amazing.

Gorgeous little pub with little snug areas. Food is absolutely gorgeous.
Lovely place to go for a nice afternoon meal. The parlour is nice and cosy, and the pub atmosphere is relaxed. I had a plant based chicken burger that was very tasty and good value for money. The other vegan option of a butternut squash Wellington, is also very nice so I'm told Ben the server provided excellent service throughout. I recommend a visit here!
Today my friend and myself had a lovely lunch here. The staff were extremely helpful and courteous and the food was excellent and reasonably priced. Great atmosphere. Would definitely go again.
This gets 3.6 stars. Decent selection of beers and glad to see they keep a traditional pub with lots of different rooms. Staff could have been a bit more welcoming and friendly.
Lovely cosy pub with lots of nooks n crannies. We had dinner which was really nice . Fish n chips and sausage n mash. Tasty. Will go again when back in York. Was a bit noisy with some men coming in for a pint but didn't put us off
High quality gastropub, the front a rear bars are separated by a semi circular bar, with a further extension at the back.
Went to this pub on the off chance and the food was brilliant! My burger was the best burger I’ve had in years. Great service will definitely go back
