I was made to feel very welcome by Carl the general manager. My room was spotlessly clean with a great ensuite. The food was excellent and plenty of it. Carl's risotto is to die for. Would I go back .. .. in a heartbeatRooms: 5/5
Oh dear. If you are thinking of staying here you need to know a few things before you spend your money. The website is misleading...this business is being run down and it shows. No chef or room service staff they've left apparently. The pub is completely closed on Mon and Tues, and closes at 9pm on Wed and Thursdays. Just stayed 2 nights in the 'Executive' Room and paid £240. Room is small and basic, small tv, mattrass as flat as a pancake..well past its shelf-life, en-suite is not the one pictured on the web site...its smaller without a bath. No toiletries, no shower mat, "hot" water just warm at best, shower low pressure flow. Room not serviced after first night. The only saving grace for the one star was a decent breakfast provided by the manager...who has to everything due to no staff. I feel I've been ripped off at £120 per night and it spoiled the break my wife and I had been looking forward to visiting York. You have been warned.
Just returned from a fabulous 2 night stay at The Ship Inn. Lovely full English breakfast to start the day before we took the Cruise boat into York for the day. Chatty friendly staff, felt very welcome during our stay. Would definitely return for another visit.
Ordered the vegetarian burger, ended up with Cajun Chicken burger! The owner replies by saying it was rectified, no it wasnt rectified at all, and you really should make sure you give the right order to the right person, you have a duty of care, would you give pecan pie to someone with a nut allergy and quickly rectify it? Maybe you should consider another career, maybe something without responsibility or customer facing
Myself and family hosted a celebration of my late father's life in September 2022. this was to give those who couldn't attend the funeral in 2021 due to restrictions, closure. The team and their manager Carl Rodgers helped us every step of the way. The onsite conservatory function room was exceptional and we were made to feel free to use the space as if it was our own. The venue supplied a fantastic cold buffet that surpassed all expectation. I can not fault the dedication to the quality of food and standards The Ship provides both in the restaurant area and for parties. Transcending that of commercial venues or hotels Conduct was second to none, with a very professional yet approachable manner. I had to manage a lot of family groups and rely information numerous times. The staff were very considerate of this and I felt very respected at all times. Myself and my Brother also stayed in the Endeavor room named after Capt. James Cook's HMS Endeavor it was very welcoming and the overall accommodation felt more like a homely modern cottage rather that a BnB or hotel with a great view of the river Ouse and a clear vantage of the outside and parking areas. These areas appear with care and class. I could see the venue being great for a wedding. I highly recommend The Ship York to anyone looking for a unique, high class and private place to getaway or hold an important function. Thanks again to Carl and the team for helping me create a day as special as my father and bring closure to family and friends.
We’ve had some good meals/roasts here in the past but the chef must of been on holiday the other day because the Cheeseburger and Cajun Chicken burger were well below par, especially with them costing £13 each. Dry and flavourless, only plus side was the fries and coleslaw were decent.
Might not be a problem for most but vegan options are chips and onion rings, vegetarian options aren't all that either, think there was a just vegetable burger. Nice enough pub though in a nice location, one of the guys working there was a bit terse but we all have bad days.Service: 3/5
A really lovely old pub, open fire inside. Authentic low ceilings and beams, stone floor in some places. Pleasant staff. Great to see the open fire with burning logs. Close to the river. Called in here after doing a local walk. Had a couple of warm sandwiches with homemade chips. Really very nice. Slightly pricey but worth every penny. Would definitely come back if in the area. Local to caravanparks and marina.
Popped in during a walk with family. Lovely place, made to feel very welcome, dogs too.Service: 5/5
Good lunch and a few cold beers. The staff were excellent. Lovely location next to the river.Service: 5/5
