A normal train station that is served by c2c trains. There is toilets on the platform along with ticket barriers on both platforms. The ticket hall area is very small simple train station that is clean and tidy.
a quiet and peaceful station next to the beach
Terrible station, one side is card payment only with a ticket office that doesn't sell tickets. So having to literally leave, walk 5 minutes to get to the other side to then have to walk over a bridge just to get back to where I started is a joke. It's just thankful that I have full mobility, for someone in a wheelchair this just isn't right :/
What a joke of a station. 9 out of 10 times, ticket machines don't work at least on one side - usually both - which is a pain trying to resolve since there's no staff either. C2C's helpful customer service line is also not 24/7, so if you're travelling in the evening - good luck!
Westcliff is one of the nicest part of the whole area. Better suited for families. Look up tide times before you come because at high tide, the water comes all the way up to the top of the beach. Very good beach but some pebbles so wear swim shoes to stay comfortable. There are also Rossi's ice cream kiosks and a restaurant nearby, with lots of eateries under the arches and decent public loos. Westcliff station is only 8 minutes walk from the beach. The pier is about 20 mins walk away. Note that dogs aren't allowed on any of Westcliff's beaches 1 May to 30 September unless you have a registered Assistance Dog with working jacket and lead and ID book/card. Dog will need to stay on the lead. However there are plans to have one or two beaches, I think past Shoebury to accommodate dogs all year round because families like to visit and you can't leave your dog at home alone more than 4 hours! There are also kiosks selling snacks, drinks, children's beach stuff. Southend High Street is about 22-25 mins walk away. I LOVE this place. Also home to the Cliffs Pavilion Theatre, which has top level shows and performers. And the view over the estuary on a clear day from here is breathtaking. I also recommend walking down the 1 and a quarter mile long pier for breezy sea air but you can get the train there and back. Great for day trips, weekend breaks, and a holiday too. Enjoy yourselves!
