We had my father in law's wake here and it was absolutely perfect. We had a warm welcome and the pub was really cosy and we had part of the pub sectioned off just for our party. The food for the buffet was outstanding and more than plentiful. The homemade chips and the spring rolls were particularly tasty. All in all, the staff were fantastic, the food was amazing, the whole place was clean and they have a kind of lounge area with a fire burning and really comfortable sofas. We are most definitely looking at going back at a happier time. Quite possibly to stay at the campsite they have there.
Beautiful setting, amazing Sunday food. We had the Veggie roast which was excellent, and their scampi was a cut above the rest. It's lovely place to stop after a walk around Badbury Rings, and we were able to bring the dog along as well. The beer has my dad's stamp of approval. Lovely service from staff, friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Fabulous roast beef with the best gravy. I am a Northerner so gravy is important. !!. Dog friendly too..and camping available so can stay for longer and sleep over. Bonus : xx
The rudest owner/chef we have ever come across. We were a larger group however the pub was empty, minus one other table in the other side of the pub. We asked for allergy advice, it was just what she told us not an actual allergy menu as per legal requirements. She tried to inform us of differing allergies as though we were stupid cause those of us carrying epipens don’t know how allergies work. She was very abrupt and when we asked what kind of chips were available she told us ‘potato’ as if we were stupid again.. we asked the kind eg… fries, thick cut etc. we shook her off and took our drinks to our table. Further more she then told the children off from walking around now she was quite rude yet again didn’t kindly say could you keep children out of the bar area claimed they were running around all over the place, they were not this was in fact their first visit to the bar to order their ice creams and one of them had gone back to check what someone else wanted as asked to by us. I said sorry they were just getting an order to which she responded in a shouty tone ‘ITS A PUB’ and huffed off. The bar staff were lovely, but the chef who we were told is the owner was honestly just a nasty rude person with a bad attitude. On a side note.. the food was poor, tasteless but awfully salty! This pub wasn’t a child free pub in fact it has a play area outside for them.. so quite the opposite. Now our children were actually very well behaved and unless you expect them to not move of their seat or as much as breath you couldn’t of faulted them - unless of course you are the owner of the ‘delightfully welcoming’ establishment. If you like the idea of Mrs Thrunchball in a chefs uniform spoiling your day this is the place for you.
We stayed on the camp site, making it our base for visiting the Great Dorset Steam Fair. The perfect location, close enough to the showground to drive in 15 minutes or walk in just over an hour, but far enough that you aren't affected by any of the show traffic, noise or mess. Camp site is perfect for caravans or campervans but not as good for tents. There are plenty of hook-ups but only one toilet and shower, no sink for washing-up and the ground is sloping and stony, so it's not easy to get pegs in. The pub itself is great, friendly, helpful staff, excellent beer and good food, at a very reasonable price.
