Food was amazing, we had to ask several times for the wine and it came as we had almost finished the meal, we asked for extra custard for a pudding and this was given in a less than gracious manner. Overall the food was amazing and we were with lovely friends. One of the waiters tried his best but was clearly busy
Booked table for 7 a month in advance. On arrival told the kitchen would be closing earlier than previously advised, but no staff came to take our order. Staff would not serve drinks at the bar, but there were not enough staff waiting on tables to deal with drinks and food orders. Waited an hour for 4 starters to arrive - soup came with 1 half piece of bread; asked for more which took so long that the soup had long gone when it arrived. Partridge good, but beef was chewy. Very slow service; understaffed today and lacking concern on any customer service. Shame, will not return. Parking: Only a few on site parking spaces which include 3 for electric. Most parking seemed to be on the village roads surrounding the pub.
What’s happened? I’ve been a few times before and it was special but this visit really wasn’t. I ordered the large fish and chips and I have never seen such a sad looking plate…..and it was definitely a lot sadder than the two plates of fish and chips that were on the table behind. No salt and pepper on the table, no offer of sauces. I asked one of the women behind the bar whether it was normal to have so few chips and they agreed it was sparse and brought me some more. Too late though, damage done!
A good meal in very nice surroundings. Some selections not available which was disappointing. We had been told that the experience could be variable but on balance we will visit again.Food: 4/5
Really disappointed with this place, the service was absolutely brilliant however the food didn't match up, ordered the steak and not only was it way over priced for what was received, it was a small steak and chewy, my friend left half of it nearly, portion size was small, there are far better options locally for a much cheaper price. Shame really!
Went for Christmas lunch, slightly disappointing. After three courses one can leave hungry, the right balance between presentation and quality was not achieved. Christmas pudding was incredibly dry.Food: 3/5
Staff we're absolutely brilliant. The Mushroom soufflé was really yummy. Rooms were spacious and ideal for blokes on a jolly Food: 4/5
Just simply delicious roast beef for Sunday lunch, my wife had the braised lamb which she described as perfect. Friendly service - we will return.Food: 5/5
Lovely old English inn, beautifully and tastefully decorated. Food was up a level, well-presented and piping hot. Great and attentive service. Really delicious food, locally sourced, great flavours, good size portions. Can't wait to return! Would thoroughly recommend. Parking: Plenty of on-road parking around the pub
Very poor experience. Booked for a family engagement party - arrived and the flustered women behind the counter proceeded to tell us they were over booked. Outside booked table turned into them cobbling together a random table with one other in a room clearly not part of the pub with zero atmosphere - was made to feel like they have done us a massive favour! Girl taking the order was lovely but clearly struggling with the situation. They didn’t have enough glasses so she could only bring over 1 we were a party of 6 with the wine with the promise of more shortly - this never arrived and we therefore took glasses off the bookshelf behind us so we could enjoy the bottle. Starters fine and arrived on time. Mains a disaster. 2 of the dishes were steak frites; the waiter came out 10 minutes later to tell us only one left, so we ordered a fillet. Turns out there was no fillet on the menu, not that anyone came to tell us that. A rump steak came out 3 times before finally they explained that was the “fillet;” so we changed to something else on the menu. Fish and chips were average, and were told they’d run out of vinegar ! Overall a very poor experience and left a sour taste that service was included. Not one sign of an apology at the clearly over stretched staff or anything taken off the bill - very disappointing
