Went here for dinner after being let down by another local pub inexplicably cancelling our reservation at the last minute! Very warm welcome, super staff and very good food - including a good kids menu. Quite a lively bar, which may not be to everyone's tastes, but plenty of tables in the restaurant part if you prefer. We felt very well looked after and would definitely visit again.
The food was absolutely lovely such a shame the service was awful, we waited ages for our food and it was pretty empty, we ordered some ice creams for the kids and they took forever, when I asked the young waitress she said "he was finishing some stuff first and will be a minute" I asked again when she came back and she said will be another 2 minutes so I cancelled the order and asked for the bill. There was no apology whatsoever for the delay, it was very poor service.
Food is beautiful, the chilli prawn starter is probably the best I've ever had. Hats off to the chef and all staff there. Would highly recommend this place. We will certainly be visiting again.Rooms: 5/5
Loved my night at this beautiful 16th century inn . Feels safe and the staff where welcoming . Rooms where spotless and the breakfast made me want more . I had an evening snack and glass of beer and just had a relaxed experience. The location was easy to find in the village . I will for sure be making more visits in the future . A big thanks to the lovely family and staff for making this very old inn a wonderful place to visit and stay the night . Rooms: My room was very comfortable and had a great nights sleep Safety: The venue is well protected without feeling big brother is there . Food & drinks: Food was fabulous and a good choice of drinks available .
Very underwhelming experience, mainly the service. The waitress forgot to bring our drinks first and then throughout our meal it felt as though she couldn’t get away from us any quicker, which didn’t leave us enough time to ask for anything. It was £18 for roast beef although didn’t highlight this on there website with one carrot and a piece of broccoli - so it was a bit of shame and felt like a lot to pay for the quality. My boyfriend and I had to share a tiny bowl of cauliflower cheese between the both of us, although promoted as part of the meal, the potatoes were over cooked but not crispy or how I’d expect a roasties to be at this price. However it was a lovely piece of meat and Yorkshire. Just a bit disappointing overall. Wouldn’t recommend for a Sunday roast
We had dinner with friends, service was slow, real lack of attention from the staff for basic things like cutlery and condiments, food was OK but not great. It's much better when we ve visited in the past
Our lunchtime meal was disappointing. My fish and chips were overcooked and the fish tasteless. My husband's curry was mediocre. Sorry to say this because we have had an excellent meal there before.
The Anvil is a centuries old thatched building with bar & restaurant on the lower floor with rooms above. The ceilinged beams feature prominently and demand vigilance from those of a tall stature when navigating the stairs and corridors. Our double room was warm, perhaps overly so, and the double bed comfy enough with an en suite toilet & shower a step down from the bedroom. Overall, we considered the space a bit "tight", overdue a make-over but adequate for the short 2 night stay, clean and delivered value for money. Breakfast was arranged by pre-order. The restaurant food was excellent both in variety and quality and was without doubt the stand-out feature of our stay .... alongside the friendly and helpful staff
Food was nice, but not what we ordered. The menu is quite misleading so question it to make sure you know what you are getting.
Decent food - little on the pricey side for bog standard burger meal... they are cheaper at my local golf club but it is a pleasant enough place.
