We stayed for a week in the Royal Angus Hotel in a Suite on the 6th Floor during Sep 2015. The rooms were big, bathroom was clean, floor tiles beautiful. We had a bit of a problem with the heater as the room temperature was pretty cold. As soon as we called the reception they had a standby movable heater at our service. Staff at the reception and at the restaurants pretty good. We enjoyed the Breakfasts. My 3.9 yrs daughter was thrilled to eat bread with the tiny and delicious honey bottles and Nutella. My husband loved the sausages, fish, pickles, poached eggs and I loved the baked beans, varieties of corn flakes and juices. The conference rooms looked lovely. Used to take my daughter for a walk by the canal side daily as it was just opposite to the hotel. Reasonable walking distance to the Bull ring from the Hotel. Had a lovely stay !
Stayed here last Friday night, decently priced, incredibly noisy as its right next to a busy main road so don't expect to sleep much past 7 o'clock without earplugs. TV was old and whilst it had HDMI plugs, there was no way to change input to access them. Clean and comfortable other than that.
The restaurant is ace but a bit pricey. The rooms are pretty good but lack some minor things like, heated towel rails and climate control that you might expect to see in a Holiday Inn or Novotel. Staff are all cool chatty and helpful. Car parking is expensive. Look up on parkopedia for cheaper car parks nearby. Beer at the bar is at a premium...but they do give you a huge flatscreen telly! Perfect for a lone business traveller, fine for a dirty weekend, but I wouldn't take your missus here for a treat. Stop being skanky and spend some money on her!
just had a two night stay... altho not the largest bed in the world the room was warm clean and fit for purpose. .. restaurant menu pricey and little choice, however the breakfast was amazing excellent choice and the staff very welcoming and helpful, great location 10 min walk to most places.. the outside terrace area excellent for us smokers rather than having to stand on the pavement...would deff book again
The restaurant manager - NICO ELLIS, is a complete fool and brings down this establishment. The several and hotel receptionist management are lovely but the restaurant manager is the tactless dunce. I was in Birmingham for 4 weeks on business and had lunch and dinner at this restaurant pretty much everyday with no problem. On Saturday, August 23rd, 2014, as the server was about to take my order, he told the server that I could not be served because I was not seated at the bar and dinning room. Now that was the hilarious part. I had been to this restaurant many many time creature of habit and people eat everywhere -- Outside, inside, by the lounge, by the bar or on the dinner room and this was pretty much the norm. All of sudden, I was told that I could not be served and her was flipping RUDE and was more or less yelling at me in the full view of guess. I did spend close to 700 pounds I have the receipts to prove it, as I get reimbursed for work and to get disrepected like that ...was a handful. I plan to make NICO ELLIS, manager at the Thistle Birmingham City Restaurant famous so he does not forget me as well. #the american he was rude to.
Cant complain. 10min walk from the centre and shops, a bit of traffic noise but its right next to main road so cant complain at that. Decents rooms and nice bed. Over had a good stay and hotel staff are very nice.
Is better looking on the inside than the outside. Seemed to be quite organised and they processed a large group of us swiftly. Rooms are basic but modern. My biggest beef is the showers. They have water pressure issues and on the 5th floor the shower dribbled out warm water. A pet hate of mine. This is not a romantic destination.
Traffic noise pneumatic drills and views of a car park. Staff in breakfast room very good though
Reasonable facilities. No car park although they have agreement with neighbouring expensive parking
Close to city centre hotel. Great if you want to meander around Birmingham shopping.
