The Watermill Theatre

About

Created from a 19th century corn mill tucked away in the heart of the Berkshire countryside, The Watermill is an idyllic setting for one of the most vibrant producing theatres in the country.

Story

Each year, The Watermill mounts some 12 new productions, with work ranging from Shakespeare to musicals and classics to new plays. The Watermill's work is also seen on our extensive tours that visit theatres around the UK and abroad as well as work created for smaller scale village halls and rural arts centres.
The Watermill aims to be a focal point for our community. We run a flourishing youth theatre, holiday courses for young people, workshops in schools plus a wide range of community activities for all ages.

We watched Chitty chitty bang bang it was exceptional and fascinating to see how they would do various things having seen film so many times but thoroughly enjoyed it as well worth going. It's the second time we've been to such a brilliant venue. Tears of joy throughout
This is probably the most delightful, atmospheric and beautiful theatre you could have the pleasure of visiting - even the resident ducks are uniquely cute!!nMoreover, we have just had the privilege of witnessing a phenomenal adaptation of Jesus Christ Superstar…..we were all blown away with the stunning perfection of the performances: what incredible talent! We were a mixed family group and some of us weren’t keen/weren’t sure if it would be ‘our vibes’! But any doubting Thomas, be reassured this will spread joy throughout your body and soul! The songs, music, acting, staging, dancing and lighting - all aspects were so powerfully impactful, to propel you across the emotional spectrum. We are even planning a return visit before the show ends! Can’t recommend it enough, it’s a 100/10 type of scoring ;nAlso, our food and drinks were all delicious and we experienced brilliant service.
A fabulous evening in an historic setting. Had a light supper and drinks in the garden before the performance. The Lord of The Rings musical was an exceptional experience, partly outdoors then moving into the theatre itself. We would most definitely recommend this venue, and only wish we lived closer as we would attend on a regular basis
This is an amazing theatre, intimate setting but the quality of productions is outstanding. We've been on a backstage tour as well which was really informative and the food in the restaurant is great. If you haven't been then you should be going!
My favourite theatre in England. So serene and feels like something out of a fairy tale. Excellent restaurant, friendly staff, feels like home
