Excellent country pub. No restrooms but does have toilets. Local Butt's ale brewed here & sold in shop next door. Roaring log fire. Moderately priced. Good food too.

What a lovely Local pub/Inn/restaurant ...not sure what it's supposed to be, but it certainly looks beautiful and has a lot of character. I booked a table to ensure that we could have Sunday lunch. That was a waste of a phone call. We received a friendly greeting and ordered our drinks. The place was empty and so quiet, but looked so lovely inside as it did outside. The beer was all locally produced and didn't taste that brilliant, but it was drinkable. We chose a table in the restaurant and sat down wondering why we were nearly the only ones there. Then looking around, we saw the cobwebs, dirty mirrors and windows that others have mentioned before, but something kept us there. We ordered our meals....sadly no traditional Sunday lunches (a big mistake), but what we had was delicious. The service was warm and friendly, which improved my rating. I try my best to offer some productive criticism, having been in this industry before...its just my thoughts, but I would dearly love to see this beautiful hostelry survive. Firstly....The first thing I saw on the entrance was 'No Dogs'. This area is beautiful and so scenic, lots of walkers and if you ban dogs, you ban their owners. I totally agree that dogs should not be in restaurants, but there is a place for well behaved dogs and their owners in pubs. Cleaning the mirrors and windows, dusting away the cobwebs from where people eat won't cost much to do, but if you don't do it, will cost you your business. The toilets (gents) were clean and tidy. They also smelt good. Having those run-of-the mill and well known brands of beers for sale, will do a lot for the turnover and wet sales. Don't stop the local beers, but just have them as 'guest beers'.....and don't make them so expensive. Putting prices up, puts people off and they drink less. If people drink less, the beer that you don't sale, does not taste good. Sale cheap, sale more. The food that we had tasted delicious, but we went for Sunday lunch and Sunday lunches were not on the menu. So wrong in the country, so wrong in this country. This area is surrounded by beautiful homes and no doubt some disposable income. Income that this place so needs. Do limited menus for the bar area. Cheaper pub grub. Make the restaurant area special, with a special menu offering the things that you do best and offer the best service ever. Without customers this place will die and without being special, no customers will come back. Listen and act on what people are saying or they will not come back. The area so needs a place like this and without too much expense this eatery can be a place that people will want to come back to again and again. Above all, a message to the owners...go to another pub in the area, that is busy and it won't take long to get an idea on what works.

I had a prawn sandwich and they put fat too many prawns in. Unfortunately they were horrible prawns. The salad was nice though.

An awful experience by the food and more so by the manger/owner. On arrival we gave the reservation name it was incorrect (not a problem missed heard over the phone) but it was our fault!!! Then we was asked "do you know where your sitting" no we just arrived with a response of "your over there". It seemed at first a nice cosy country pub but looking around after waiting for food to come out, the place is filthy with thick dust and cob webs throughout. It took over an hour and half to get 5 main dishes all just a mixture of steaks meals to the table, and when it finally arrived the young server who brought the food just plated the plates onto the table with out asking who was whose. We asked several times which was which he didn't know plates being swapped on the table, the chips was cold and burnt oilly (been in the fryer to be reheated up and still left out cold) and every steak was cooked incorrectly. After bringing this to the attention of the manger who was behind the bar DRINKING, he was showed 2 steaks cut in half one was meant to be medium rare and was well done no colour at all and very dry!! His response was that's your opinion. Furthermore another order was for medium the steak was rare with the plate red in blood and the meat cold in the middle, again the owner or manager that's your opinion. I asked for the meals to be taken back to be redone or to be taken off the bill (nothing was actually eaten) he said no the meal is provided and is of a high standard refusing to remove the food from the table saying the CUSTOMER IS WRONG, his actual words!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd say he had no professional courtesy and did become rude to all his customers and he had no idea of the food being served and refused to accept any complaints. So unprofessional I had to ask him to get the bill to stop the ARGUMENT AT THE TABLE, so I could get my family out of the so called restaurant and then very unhappyily paid for food that was even eaten. THIS IS THE WORST EVER EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD, LET ALONE THIS WAS MEANT TO BE THE MANEGER SO UNBELIEVABLY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL AND HORRIBLE FOOD STAY AWAY!
