Loving the new menu but disappointed my first choice main not available but the steak and ale pie was absolutely delicious. Lemon meringue pie for dessert was lovely too but quite a small slice for the price and could have left off the strawberries personal preference. Service was good and Ben very attentive. Would recommend.
Stopped for Sunday lunch en route to the south coast, rather than a services, and am so glad we did. Two roaring fires on a rainy and miserable day made us feel cosy from the outset. Generous servings of roast beef and roast chicken, with well-flavoured gravy and some absolutely huge Yorkshire puddings were a total treat. Staff were friendly and directed us to the stack of games and colouring to keep children entertained. Having simply searched for pubs along our route we wouod have been satisfied with much less so expectations were very happily exceeded. The only aspect that could be improved is that the side of cauliflower cheese was underwhelming in volume and flavour compared to the mains, but would not put me off returning with the pub as our main destination.
Atmospheric village pub; welcoming staff, efficient service, better than standard pub grub with generous portions of good quality, especially the Sunday roast.nBoard games, cosy fire, and dogs welcome. Good haunt for locals but also place for a meal as a couple or group. Good location for refreshment at the end of a Ridgeway walk!
We stayed 3 nights at The Crown and Horns, and really enjoyed our stay. The hosts Ben and Ant were very accommodating and friendly. The place is clean and has a real charm about it. The food is great, a good menu with lots of choice, the continental breakfast offered a variety and was filling. We enjoyed live music, sampled some of the beer on tap and we had a lovely stay.
Great spot for Sunday lunch. Yorkshire puddings in particular were excellent. Good selection of ciders too. We will absolutely be returning! Thank you Ben for looking after us!
