Best Hotel I've been in at Newcastle loved every minute of it! The room was clean and tidy . The above bar was excellent. We loved every minute of it sitting outside having a drink. It does get windy up there, but it's still a great atmosphere and nice scenery Rooms: 5/5
Hotel was OK. Room was lovely and clean. Housekeeping staff were friendly and helpful as were waiting staff at breakfast. However, I do feel reception staff need further training in customer service. I was kept waiting at least 10 minutes at check in despite 5 members of staff behind desk. I thought staff were quite stuck up and I did not feel welcome. Also , the 50 pounds deposit was taken from my account despite not using anything and actually took 2 weeks to be refunded which, in my opinion, is disgraceful. Won't be staying again.
The pictures the Vermont has of it's rooms on it's website are laughable!! The rooms look nothing like that!! This isn't the worst hotel you'll ever stay in, but it very much sells itself as a higher-class, refined sort of a hotel, which it is not. I am writing this review for anyone who might be visiting Newcastle with a partner, or for a special trip, who wants to stay somewhere with a bit more of a luxurious feel. I stayed here with work, so it wasn't a problem for me, but if I had stayed here with a partner, I would have felt genuinely embarrassed. The breakfast for example, was a tiny buffet with a few breakfast options. My room was grubby and outdated. The only redeeming feature of The Vermont was the water pressure, which was insanely strong. The staff were nice too. The sky bar looks very trashy. Like a early 2000s Dubai nightclub.
I had a room overlooking the castle which had a wedding there so had loud music playing. I did not hear a thing. The sound proofing and windows did their job, and great black out curtains. Room was clean and bed comfortable. Great location. Their carpark isn’t big but i arrived on a saturday at 12.30pm and there were loads of spaces. All the staff i encountered were kind and courteous. I am a female and was there alone and felt very safe. Will definitely return
We ate at the Maven Restaurant in the Vermont hotel. The food was fabulous. Three of us had: Starters: Beetroot/Prawn Cocktail/Aranchini Main: Beef blade x 2/Cod & chips Desert: Ice cream/sticky toffee pudding/panacotta Each serving was delicious. Service was excellent. It was an extra bonus as it was restaurant week in Newcastle. 10th Aug 2024
First impressions of the room and hotel were great - concierge and reception desk were super friendly and helpful, and the view from our 11th floor room was great. Sadly, it being a Saturday, we were unaware when booking and checking in that the owners of the hotel decided to put a nightclub directly above our rooms with a night planned to go on until 2am. Sound proofing between the club and rooms wasn't great, meaning we were forced to listen to the thumping bass and loud music at around 10.30 when settling down. We went down to reception to see if we could be moved into another room and encountered the duty manager. I explained that it was a reasonable expectation when booking a hotel room to be able to sleep. The duty manager explained that he had no other rooms available, was not able to offer a refund on the room, and was dismissive that the hotel bore any responsibility for the noise coming from the nightclub on the hotel site. This is despite the fact that it is owned by the same company! The manager was absolutely awful in his handling of the situation, unable to show sympathy or any degree of understanding - probably the worst customer service I've ever encountered with a hotel. The situation was only slightly redeemed by the efforts of a junior member of staff who was very polite in listening to us and in offering us a complementary drink whilst we were forced to read in the bar downstairs. In summary, recommended for party animals, but probably not for people hoping to get a good night's sleep.
My wife and I stayed here on Wednesday and it was Amazing. A Beautiful Character filled hotel in a Brilliant location. The Sky Bar on the Hotel Roof is a must visit. Breakfast was Fantastic and we had a nice room with a view of the Castle keep which was nice but the best thing about the hotel is without doubt the Staff. Every single member of staff we had contact with were very professional, Friendly and approachable the Quality of the Staff are definitely this hotels crowning glory, well done to all involved
Price and location are good. Room is very spacious, albeit old. The halls and bars are very comfortable and moody, the drinks could be better. The greatest issue was service. Upon check-in, I requested an early breakfast due to flight schedule, the receptionist indicated it would easily be done. On the night before the fight, another receptionist said that next morning her shift and that she could not do anything, I asked her to inform the next shift, to which she agreed. On the day of departure, the receptionist said he didn't know anything and could not ask the kitchen to do anything in less than 1 hour. I had to find food at the airport, hours later.
The only minor issue we had was the parking. Unable to reserve with a blue badge, but fortunately, parking was available nearby. The concierge was incredibly helpful. Reception team polite. Suite was immaculate and comfortable. The bathroom fixtures need some attention. Restaurant was fabulous, and every member of the staff was presentable, hospitable, and efficient. Breakfast was super! Would highly recommend and hope to visit again. Rooms: Immaculately clean. Comfortable. Bathroom fixtures need some attention. Tea & coffee machines are very welcome. Food & drinks: Restaurant is super. Food is excellent and every member of the team was well presented and helpful. Excellent
We celebrated our wedding anniversary at The Vermont Parking was not an issue for us and we had early check in as our room was ready. The room was lovely, traditional, classic very comfortable and warm. It had everything you wanted. Staff are great very friendly and helpful we hadn’t booked breakfast but the gentleman on reception was very kind to give us our breakfast and it was delicious. Good variety of cold buffet fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereal, cold meats & cheese. Toast with various spreads, I had Eggs Benedict my husband had full English which was a huge breakfast, all tasted fresh & good quality cooked well. Huge thank you for an amazing stay see you next year x
