We recently stayed at this hotel for one night with my husband and our three kids in the YOLO room. The room itself is beautiful, with a unique design that we really appreciated. However, there are a few small maintenance issues that could use attention. The wallpaper is peeling in places, the grout around the tiles could be redone, and the circular taps in the room with the bathtubs need some TLC. Additionally, the door didn’t shut properly, which detracted from the experience of solving the riddle to reveal the surprise. Another minor issue was that the baths only had very hot water, with no option for cold, which made it challenging to use. These are all small issues that can be easily fixed to make the room perfect because it truly has a lot of potential. A heads-up—make sure to bring a photo ID, as it’s required at check-in without exception. On a positive note, the breakfast was lovely, and the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, especially with our kids. The hotel’s location is also excellent. We had a great time overall and definitely plan on returning. Thanks for a memorable stay!
Lovely place. Our room was beautiful. Our second time for a girls night here. On both occasions there is a horrible smell from the drains but you soon get used to it. Rooms clean and very comfortable beds. No phone in room to call reception though. We stayed in the flamingo themed room.
Stayed here twice now, and each time has been lovely. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the rooms are spacious and clean. They also do special requests, as I found out. My partner surprised me for our anniversary, and I walk into rose petals and chocolates! If you want to treat yourself to a nice hotel, this is the one.Rooms: 5/5
If you ever come to Liverpool, this is the place to stay I can guarantee that this place is clean with the most exceptional service and have the best themed rooms in the whole UK! Initially we booked the room for 1 night but after we saw what the hotel got to offer, we decided to stay longer and if we could we wouldn't move out at all, that's how good this hotel is! Special mention to the lady who worked on the reception the night we moved in 23.07.2024 she is absolute star, very police and concentrate on providing a good service, thank you! We definitely will be coming back and will be recommending this hotel to a friends and family!
Shared a room with 4 friends and wow. Exceeded my expectations, it was stunning. From the reception area right down to the tiniest detail, everything was wonderful. Decor is lush, room was spacious, everywhere was clean and tidy, breakfast was amazing and the staff, what can I say, so so lovely especially Sue and Chris at breakfast who couldn't do enough for us. Rooms: Spacious, clean and lovely decor. Nearby activities: Central for everything you need. Safety: Far enough away from the crowds to feel safe. Walkability: Close enough to walk everywhere. Food & drinks: Breakfast outstanding. Noteworthy details: I usually stay in the Hard days night, never again, this is my go to place in Liverpool from now on.
We booked last minute due to an issue at our other lodging arrangements, and the reception staff was wonderful. Parking was a breeze and connects to hotel. Walking distance to the Cavern Quarter. Short Uber ride to the Pier. The breakfast is reasonably priced, allowing a self-serve continental buffet with many options. The main course is a traditional English breakfast which was served hot and delicious by Sue our wonderful server. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable with a double and 2 twins to use together or separately. Jacuzzi and rain shower were also a nice surprise! The decor is whimsical yet has a masculine touch with leather seating and sports memorabilia featuring Bill Shankly. Didn’t get to use rooftop due to weekday stay but will def be back! Highly recommend!
Great location and easy to sleep multiple people, the team also made a quick correction to a problem with the room. Location was great for first timers to Liverpool. The hotel clearly caters mostly to a party crowd, as the room wasn’t the cleanest some permanent looking stains in the bathroom and a general sticky feeling to the floor. The constant glow from the Monster energy drink fridge was also really annoying at night. But it felt safe and allowed us a good home base to explore the city from.
Me, my Mum and sisters have just returned from spending 2 nights in The Shankly and I can't recommended it enough. From the staff at the front desk who couldn't have done more and were so friendly & helpful, to the room itself, everything was fantastic! We are already looking to book our next stay!Rooms: 5/5
I want to preface the review by saying that we discussed the issues we had at the time with the management of the hotel but did not receive any responses, as promised. I don't believe in slating a hotel online for poor service or facilities but I feel future patrons should know what they are paying for when they're making a booking. I stayed with a group of friends for 2 nights over a weekend in July, and we booked 2 rooms for 8 adults in total. On arrival at the hotel, we received the keys for both rooms, however, in one of the rooms that was assigned to us, one member of our travelling party discovered that someone we were not acquainted with was already in one of the rooms we were assigned. This was addressed at reception with the check-in staff, suspecting a mix up in rooms, and after some 'investigation' by the hotel into the matter, we were advised that there was no one in the room when they checked it out and an alternative room was provided. The change of room was fine, but this incident seemed to set the tone for the weekend. As a group, we got ready to head out for the night on night one, and after eating in the hotel restaurant, for which the food was good, I returned to the room to use the facilities before we left at 9pm. On our return to the room later that night, myself and 2 friends discovered that 80% of our bathroom was soaked with water including a puddle on the floor. After initial inspection, we couldn't understand where the water had come from, despite checking the toilet, sink, shower and bath for leaks. The shower did not have a curtain and the showerhead was stationary over the bath. We subsequently reported it to the night staff on the front desk, and one person came up to the room with us to inspect the flood and clean up the mess. The unused bath towels, bath mat and toilet paper were all wet, despite not having been used at this stand by any resident of the room, and no satisfactory explanation could be provided by the staff member, despite noting they would check for leaks in the bedroom on the floor above. No follow up was provided to us. We addressed the issue again the next morning at reception with a lady who appeared to be in a senior position. She apologised for no follow up the night before and for the condition of the room and she asked for my email address and said she would investigate it and contact me. No email was received from the hotel since this to explain what happened. On our return to the hotel on the last evening to prepare for departure the next morning, we determined, after using the bathroom facilities in full, that the only way the bathroom could have been so wet the night before, was if someone had been in the room using the shower. We unfortunately have no proof that it was used by anyone else outside of the 4 room residents, but all we know is that the place was bone dry when we all left the evening before. Luckily, after what had happened on our arrival with the other room, we ensured to leave no valuables in the room the first night when we went out, so nothing of value was missing on our return. Aside from the above, the room was not in great condition. Wallpaper was peeling from an area of the ceiling, there was a smell of damp in the room, the window was bolted shut due to new regulations were were told by hotel staff and the air conditioning was not working properly, so on a relatively warm weekend, the room was very stuffy with 4 adult residents. The curtains were not blacked out in any way, we only had 3 bedside tables for 4 beds and I also discovered blood stains on the mattress protector under the sheet on my bed the night before we checked out. One thing I do want to point out is that the hotel service staff that we had interaction with were very pleasant and provided great service, but the management of the hotel and how it's being run is clearly letting it down. I've worked in hotels before and I'm aware of how a business like this needs to be run to be successful. The location is great but that's about all it has going for it.
Hotel lobby and bar is amazing, the room we got was the furthest away and smelt of damp in the hallway, the floors had all bubbled up too like it was previously flooded. The bed covers had been too small for the bedding so the duvet just hung out. On the first night there out of 3 we went to the bar and got a drink, there was no one else there at 8.15pm they turned the music off and the lights on one half room , I asked had they closed and they said no they are open to 10.30pm, no staff then at the bar after that and seemed to be all in the back kitchen area, we ended up feeling awkward because they then started to set up for breakfast so we headed to the room. The air conditioning did not work in the room, on the 1st morning there we told Reception and they said someone would look at it but it still didn't work,I asked again and they said they would look again and still nothing. Definitely seemed to be more suitable for large parties hens/stags
