First visit back in 2022 was phenomenal. This second visit however made me contemplate the possibility of my return. The service was excellent, but unfortunately, the food didn't live up to my expectations this time. The mince on toast was a bit gamy, and the toast itself was difficult to cut through. The lettuce dressing was minimal and watery, which didn’t help balance the dish. The oxtail special was hearty and satisfying, and the highlight of the meal was definitely the pudding. While the food was above average for pub food, I had higher expectations given the restaurant's image. It positions itself as more than just a typical pub, with a more eclectic vibe, and in that context, the food didn’t quite match the elevated experience it aims to offer.
Vibrant, above-average, classy pub experience for those also looking for great food. Their chunky chips were one of the best we’ve had lately. Bone marrow and steak were done very well. Crab on toast felt too small a portion and had some crab shells, so a care is required when eating. Price on the higher-end, but would be happy to come back again to try different menu. Reservation is a must during the weekends.
Good food. Went for lunch with my wife today,a Monday, and thought the menu choices were limited especially when we didn't want to spend so much for lunch.nI had the Onglet which could have been better, and I wonder why most modern chefs these days tend to not cook cheap cuts more. My Onglet today tended to be a little too chewy, but the taste was good.nMy wife's selection of the Chicken and Ham pie was good but was too salty though edible.nThe chips were sensational.nWe shared the battered Monkfish as our starter, and it was divine.nBeing old people we couldn't eat more so had none of the delightful desserts on offer.nAll in, it was a nice lunch we had in the Pelican this afternoon. Service was good, friendly and efficient. Decor was very pleasant.nThank you.
I’m not a big fan of English food but this restaurant made me reconsider my opinion. The food was simple but very tasty and reasonably priced. I would recommend the cod, sausage rolls and the lamb. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate but the pub setting is more casual. Would highly recommend!
This was my first time at the Pelican while i visited London. I had cauliflower leaves as a starter and cod & mussels as main. Everything tasted great!nFew reasons why i didn’t rate my visit as 5*. Cauliflower leaves were actually battered and fried and this was not mentioned in the dish description on the menu. While it had great taste, i chose this dish because it was in veggies section and i was hoping for a vegetable kind of snack and the dish was too heavy for a starter. Would be nice to have that visibility on the menu.nThe cod took almost an hour to arrive, which was not a big deal for me but i was still surprised it was lunch time on a wednesday. The dish was great, however funny enough i had the same dish the day before at the Hero pub and i thought it was executed much better, the cod at the Hero blew my mind honestly.nThe way the waitress was explaining the specials and scrabbling the names on the main menu sheet didn’t make any sense to me. Once she left and i was left with “soup” on the piece of paper trying to remember if that was the item she described as “creamy” or something else. Why not print the specials on a separate piece of paper? Not to mention they need a new sheet of menu for every single guest which is such a waste!nLastly, my bill included £10 for something i didn’t order and i never check the bill but was just lucky this time. I am sure this is just an oversight and was fixed immediately but i saw someone else in the reviews have mentioned similar issue.
